Waaree Renewable Technologies Limited (WRTL), a subsidiary of Waaree Energies Limited, has secured a Letter of Award (LOA) from one of India’s thermal power generating companies for the development of a large-scale renewable energy and storage project.
The order covers Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) work for a 291 MWp ground-mounted solar photovoltaic project integrated with a 280 MWh Battery Energy Storage System (BESS).
According to WRTL’s regulatory filing dated August 28, 2026, the order is a domestic commercial project and is scheduled to be completed during FY2027-28.
Solar generation combined with battery storage
The project combines utility-scale solar generation with a substantial battery storage system, reflecting the growing importance of energy storage as India expands its renewable energy capacity.
While solar power can generate significant amounts of electricity during daylight hours, its output varies with sunlight and cannot by itself provide consistent power throughout the day.
The integration of a 280 MWh BESS can help store electricity generated from the solar project and make that energy available when required. Such systems can improve renewable energy utilisation, support grid stability and help manage fluctuations in renewable generation.
The project therefore represents a move towards an increasingly integrated renewable energy model where generation and energy storage are developed together.
Major EPC opportunity for Waaree Renewable Technologies
Under the order, WRTL will be responsible for the EPC scope, covering the development and construction of the solar PV project and its associated battery storage infrastructure.
With 291 MWp of solar capacity, the project represents a significant addition to WRTL’s renewable energy execution portfolio.
The inclusion of BESS also gives the company exposure to the rapidly developing energy-storage segment, which is becoming increasingly important as India seeks to integrate larger quantities of intermittent renewable power into its electricity system.
The project is expected to be completed in FY2027-28, providing WRTL with a sizeable execution opportunity over the coming period.
No related-party involvement
WRTL stated in its regulatory communication that the promoters and group companies have no interest in the entity awarding the project.
The company also clarified that the transaction does not constitute a related-party transaction, providing further clarity regarding the commercial nature of the order.

Significance for India’s renewable energy transition
The project highlights the increasing role of battery energy storage systems alongside large-scale solar generation in India’s evolving power infrastructure.
As renewable capacity expands, storage can help address the mismatch between when renewable electricity is generated and when electricity demand occurs. Combining solar with BESS can therefore make renewable power more flexible and improve its integration into the broader electricity system.
For Waaree Renewable Technologies, the LOA strengthens its position in utility-scale renewable EPC while expanding its participation in the energy-storage segment.
The combination of 291 MWp solar capacity and 280 MWh of battery storage makes the project an important example of how India’s renewable energy infrastructure is moving beyond standalone generation towards integrated clean-energy systems.
