Uttar Pradesh has secured investment commitments of more than ₹45,000 crore from eight companies across semiconductors, electronics, solar manufacturing and renewable energy, in a move expected to create over 25,000 direct jobs and strengthen the state’s position as a major industrial and clean-energy hub.
The investments are concentrated largely in Gautam Buddha Nagar, including Noida, Greater Noida and the Jewar region, which is emerging as an important centre for electronics, semiconductor and renewable-energy manufacturing.
Awanish Awasthi, Advisor to the Uttar Pradesh Government and former Chief Secretary, highlighted the commitments as a major boost to the state’s investment landscape.
The companies involved include HCL-Foxconn, Avaada Electro, Amber Enterprises, SAEL Solar, Oriana Power, CESC Green Power, Ascent Circuits and IB Solar.
Renewable Energy Accounts for Major Share
Renewable energy represents the largest portion of the announced investments.
Avaada Electro is expected to invest around ₹16,139 crore, with the project potentially generating approximately 7,400 jobs.
SAEL Solar has committed around ₹8,000 crore, with employment potential of roughly 7,760 positions.
Other major clean-energy commitments include:
- Oriana Power: ₹4,500 crore
- CESC Green Power: ₹3,805 crore
Together, these projects represent more than ₹32,000 crore of investment in renewable-energy and green-manufacturing activities.
The projects are expected to support solar manufacturing, clean-energy infrastructure and domestic supply chains, while creating opportunities for component manufacturers, engineering companies, logistics providers and other ancillary businesses.
SAEL Plans 5 GW Solar Cell and Module Facilities
SAEL Solar is developing an integrated solar manufacturing facility in Jewar, Gautam Buddha Nagar.
The project is planned across around 200 acres and is expected to include:
- 5 GW solar cell manufacturing capacity
- 5 GW solar module manufacturing capacity
The facility is expected to strengthen Uttar Pradesh’s position in India’s growing domestic solar manufacturing ecosystem and potentially support the development of a wider supplier network around the project.
Semiconductor Investment Also Gains Momentum
The investment package also includes major projects in the semiconductor and electronics sectors.
HCL-Foxconn, through India Chip Pvt. Ltd., is expected to establish a semiconductor manufacturing facility with an investment of around ₹3,706 crore.
The project is expected to create approximately 3,000 jobs and has received additional support under Uttar Pradesh’s Semiconductor Policy.
The investment comes as India seeks to build domestic semiconductor manufacturing capabilities and reduce dependence on overseas supply chains.
Ascent Circuits to Invest ₹3,250 Crore
Ascent Circuits is planning an investment of around ₹3,250 crore to expand India’s electronics supply chain.
Its proposed facility is expected to manufacture advanced electronic components including:
- Flexible printed circuit boards
- High-density interconnect PCBs
- Semiconductor substrates
These components are widely used in smartphones, consumer electronics, automotive systems and industrial equipment.
The project is expected to further strengthen the existing Noida-Greater Noida electronics manufacturing ecosystem.
Amber Enterprises and IB Solar
Amber Enterprises is expected to invest approximately ₹3,232 crore, while IB Solar has committed around ₹3,000 crore.
Together, the projects are expected to create more than 6,200 employment opportunities.
The investments will expand manufacturing capabilities in electronics and solar energy and could attract additional component suppliers and contract manufacturers to the region.
Policy Support Drives Investment
The Uttar Pradesh government has attributed the investment momentum to its industrial policies and efforts to improve the ease of doing business.
The Industrial Investment and Employment Promotion Policy 2022 is supporting several of the projects, while other investments are receiving assistance under policies covering FDI and semiconductors.
The government is also using its single-window clearance mechanism to speed up approvals and coordinate infrastructure requirements.
For large manufacturing projects, the availability of land, reliable electricity, connectivity, infrastructure and faster regulatory approvals are key factors in determining investment decisions.
Gautam Buddha Nagar Emerges as Industrial Hub
Gautam Buddha Nagar is at the centre of the state’s latest investment push.
The wider Noida-Greater Noida-Jewar region benefits from its proximity to Delhi, established electronics manufacturing clusters, expressway connectivity and the development of Noida International Airport.
The region’s industrial infrastructure and connectivity are making it increasingly attractive for companies involved in electronics, semiconductors, solar manufacturing and other advanced industries.
The development of large manufacturing facilities could also benefit local MSMEs by creating demand for logistics, packaging, industrial maintenance, electrical equipment, fabrication and other services.
Investments Align With India’s Strategic Priorities
The announced projects align closely with several of India’s national priorities, including:
- Semiconductor manufacturing
- Electronics self-reliance
- Solar manufacturing
- Renewable-energy expansion
- Domestic supply-chain development
- Job creation
- Advanced manufacturing
The combination of semiconductor, electronics and clean-energy investments could allow Uttar Pradesh to develop a broader industrial ecosystem rather than relying on individual manufacturing projects.
The state government is also looking to use these investments to support its long-term ambition of becoming a $1 trillion economy.
However, the actual economic impact will depend on how quickly the announced projects move from investment commitments to operational facilities.
If implemented as planned, the projects could significantly expand Uttar Pradesh’s manufacturing base, strengthen domestic clean-energy and electronics supply chains, and create thousands of direct and indirect employment opportunities.
