As severe flooding continues to disrupt communities across Assam, True Impact Foundation, in collaboration with Bharat Benevita Foundation, is supporting relief and recovery efforts across four districts — Sivasagar, Lakhimpur, Jorhat and Charaideo.
The ongoing relief campaign has reached more than 12,130 people across 24-plus villages, providing essential supplies to families affected by flooding and disruptions to transportation, livelihoods and access to basic services.
Around 1,500 people are also receiving cooked meals every day, providing immediate food assistance to communities facing difficulties in accessing regular supplies.
Relief Reaches Flood-Affected Communities
With roads submerged and infrastructure damaged in several areas, field teams have been working directly with local communities to identify households facing the most urgent needs.
The relief effort has focused particularly on vulnerable groups, including children, elderly people, daily wage workers and families that have lost access to regular food supplies.
Supplies distributed so far include:
- Dry rations and grocery kits
- Medicines and medical kits
- Rain-protection kits
- Mosquito nets
- Sanitary pads
- Bedsheets and mats
- ORS and hygiene supplies
- Buckets and household utensils
- Phenyl and bleaching powder for shelter homes
The combination of food, healthcare, hygiene and household support is intended to address multiple challenges faced by families during prolonged flooding.
Daily Cooked Meals Provide Immediate Support
Alongside distribution of relief materials, approximately 1,500 people are being provided cooked meals every day.
The initiative is particularly important for families whose homes are surrounded by floodwater or who have limited access to markets and cooking facilities.
For communities dependent on daily wages and agriculture, flooding can create problems that continue long after the water begins to recede. Loss of income, damaged homes, agricultural equipment and household belongings can make recovery a prolonged process.
Volunteers Navigate Difficult Terrain
Field volunteers and local coordinators have continued to operate despite difficult transportation conditions in several flood-hit locations.
Teams have worked with communities to identify households requiring immediate assistance and deliver supplies directly to areas where access to markets, healthcare facilities and normal supply chains has been disrupted.
True Impact Foundation said disaster response needs to address multiple requirements simultaneously rather than focusing on a single category of assistance.
Shameem, Founder of True Hope Foundation, said families affected by floods require food, medicines, clean surroundings, household essentials and protection from the conditions around them, adding that the organisation aims to continue reaching families still waiting for essential assistance.
Partnership Strengthens Relief Operations
The collaboration between True Impact Foundation and Bharat Benevita Foundation has combined resources, local coordination and community-level engagement to strengthen the response.
According to the organisations, the partnership has helped teams reach affected communities faster and use available resources more effectively.
Deepak Kumar Saw, CEO of Bharat Benevita Foundation, said the scale of the crisis made collaboration essential and that the partnership helped combine local coordination with wider reach.
He also highlighted that the impact of flooding extends beyond the immediate loss of homes, affecting stability and livelihoods for months after the water recedes.
Recovery Will Require Long-Term Support
While immediate relief remains a priority, the organisations noted that Assam’s flood-affected communities will require continued support during the recovery phase.
Rebuilding homes and infrastructure, restoring livelihoods and ensuring continued access to healthcare and education can take considerably longer than the emergency relief period.
The organisations said long-term recovery should therefore focus not only on physical reconstruction but also on helping affected families regain economic stability and strengthen their resilience against future disasters.
