Tata Power Company Limited has secured a ₹3,200 crore power transmission project in Karnataka to facilitate the evacuation of renewable energy from the upcoming 2,000 MW Ryapte Solar Park in Tumakuru district.
The project was awarded through a Tariff-Based Competitive Bidding (TBCB) process conducted by REC Power Development and Consultancy Limited (RECPDCL), a wholly owned subsidiary of REC Limited. Following the successful bid, RECPDCL officially transferred the project-specific Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV), Ryapte Power Transmission Limited, to Tata Power on July 30, 2026.
Project to Strengthen Renewable Energy Infrastructure
The transmission project will be developed under the Build, Own, Operate and Transfer (BOOT) model and is expected to be completed within 30 months from the start of development.
The initiative aims to build the critical transmission infrastructure required to evacuate clean electricity generated from the 2,000 MW Ryapte Solar Park, supporting Karnataka’s growing renewable energy ecosystem and strengthening the state’s power grid.
Major Transmission Network Planned
As part of the project, Tata Power will develop a robust transmission network that includes:
- A 400/220 kV substation at Ryapte.
- A 400/220 kV Gas-Insulated Substation (GIS) at Doddathaggalli near Hosakote.
- A 400 kV double-circuit transmission line spanning approximately 207 kilometres, connecting Doddathaggalli, Ryapte and Kolar.
- A 220 kV double-circuit transmission line of nearly 57 kilometres linking Ekarajapura, Hosakote and Sarjapura.
The infrastructure will ensure efficient evacuation and reliable transmission of renewable power generated by the solar park to the state’s electricity grid.
Supporting India’s Clean Energy Transition
The project comes at a time when India is rapidly expanding its solar power capacity, increasing the need for modern transmission infrastructure to efficiently integrate renewable energy into the grid.
Strengthening transmission networks is considered essential for reducing congestion, improving grid reliability and ensuring that large-scale renewable projects can deliver electricity to consumers without bottlenecks.
The Ryapte transmission project is expected to play a significant role in supporting Karnataka’s renewable energy expansion while contributing to India’s broader clean energy and decarbonisation goals.
Public-Private Collaboration
The official handover ceremony was attended by senior officials from RECPDCL, Tata Power, and the Karnataka Power Transmission Corporation Limited (KPTCL).
The collaboration highlights the growing role of private sector participation in developing India’s power infrastructure through competitive bidding mechanisms.
With the completion of the project, Karnataka is expected to further strengthen its position as one of India’s leading renewable energy states while improving the integration of large-scale solar projects into the national grid.
