Mumbai, 3 July: Tata Power Renewable Energy Limited (TPREL), a subsidiary of The Tata Power Company Limited, has commissioned its 100.8 MW Jewali Wind Project in Maharashtra’s Dharashiv district, further strengthening its renewable energy portfolio and supporting India’s clean energy transition.
The electricity generated from the project will be supplied to Tata Power Mumbai Distribution, helping the utility meet its Renewable Purchase Obligation (RPO) targets while increasing the share of green energy in its power supply.
The Jewali Wind Project comprises 28 advanced SG 3.6-145 Wind Turbine Generators and is expected to generate nearly 299 million units (kWh) of clean electricity annually. According to the company, the project will offset approximately 245 million kilograms of carbon dioxide (CO₂) emissions every year, contributing significantly to decarbonisation efforts.
The commissioning marks another milestone in TPREL’s renewable energy expansion strategy and reflects the company’s continued focus on delivering large-scale wind and solar projects across the country.
With the addition of the Jewali project, TPREL’s wind energy portfolio has crossed 3.9 GW, including more than 1.3 GW of operational capacity, while the remaining projects are under development across Rajasthan, Gujarat, Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka and Tamil Nadu.
The latest project also aligns with Tata Power’s long-term goal of achieving 100% clean energy generation by 2045and reinforces its commitment to supporting India’s net-zero ambitions.
Following the commissioning, TPREL’s total renewable utility capacity has increased to 11.6 GW, of which 6.7 GW is operational, comprising 5.4 GW of solar and 1.3 GW of wind projects. Another 4.9 GW of renewable energy capacity is currently under various stages of implementation, including approximately 2.1 GW of solar, 2.6 GW of wind, and 0.2 GW of Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) projects, which are expected to be commissioned over the next six to 24 months.
Tata Power, a part of the Tata Group, has an overall operational and pipeline power generation capacity exceeding 26 GW, including around 17.5 GW of clean energy projects. The company continues to expand its presence across renewable energy, power transmission and distribution, solar manufacturing, pumped hydro storage and electric vehicle charging infrastructure as part of its strategy to accelerate India’s sustainable energy transition.
