Tata Power Renewable Energy Limited (TPREL), through its rooftop solar business Tata Power Solaroof, has launched its flagship ‘Ghar Ghar Solar’ campaign in Punjab, aiming to accelerate rooftop solar adoption across the state. The company plans to bring clean energy solutions to over one lakh households within the next three years, while also introducing battery storage systems and affordable financing options to make renewable energy more accessible.
The initiative comes as Punjab witnesses rising electricity demand, increasing awareness of sustainable living, and growing interest in energy independence. Tata Power believes the state’s strong agricultural base, expanding residential sector and supportive government policies make it one of India’s most promising markets for distributed renewable energy.
As part of the campaign, households will be able to install rooftop solar systems ranging from 1 kW to 10 kW, allowing consumers to choose systems that best match their electricity consumption. The company estimates that the initiative will contribute more than 500 MWp of cumulative rooftop solar capacity across Punjab over the next three years.
To further promote community participation, Tata Power has also introduced the ‘Mera Gaon, Mera Solar’ initiative, designed to encourage villages and semi-urban communities to collectively adopt rooftop solar. The programme aims to create awareness about the environmental and financial benefits of clean energy while expanding solar adoption beyond major cities.
A major highlight of the launch is the introduction of Tata Power Battery Storage solutions. The company unveiled advanced battery energy storage systems (BESS) for both residential and commercial consumers, with capacities ranging from 5 kWh to 50 MWh. These systems will enable consumers to store excess solar energy, ensure uninterrupted power supply during outages and improve overall energy independence.
For commercial and industrial customers, Tata Power introduced its PowerHub portfolio, offering scalable battery storage solutions capable of supporting businesses with advanced energy management, operational efficiency and reliable integration of renewable power.
To make rooftop solar more affordable, Tata Power has partnered with a leading financial institution to launch a special zero down-payment financing scheme exclusively for Punjab customers. Under the programme, consumers can install solar systems without any upfront payment while paying affordable monthly EMIs. The financing package also includes solar insurance coverage, helping reduce the financial burden on households transitioning to clean energy.
The campaign complements the Government of India’s PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana, under which eligible households can receive subsidies of up to ₹78,000 for rooftop solar installations, making solar adoption significantly more economical.
Speaking at the launch, Dr. Praveer Sinha, CEO & Managing Director of Tata Power, said Punjab is rapidly emerging as a key market for distributed renewable energy and that the Ghar Ghar Solar campaign aims to create a complete clean energy ecosystem by combining rooftop solar, battery storage and accessible financing.
Tata Power already has a strong presence in Punjab, having installed 5,661 rooftop solar systems with a combined capacity of 169 MWp. According to the company, these installations help avoid more than 2 lakh tonnes of CO₂ emissions annually, equivalent to planting over 84 lakh trees every year. The company has also established 59 EV charging stations in Punjab and 11 in Chandigarh, further supporting India’s clean mobility transition.
With more than 4.5 lakh rooftop solar installations and over 5.1 GWp of installed capacity nationwide, Tata Power continues to strengthen its position as one of India’s leading renewable energy companies while driving the country’s transition towards sustainable and decentralized energy solutions.
