Mumbai, 20 June: Reliance Industries has outlined an ambitious roadmap spanning clean energy, battery manufacturing, artificial intelligence, digital infrastructure, and consumer businesses, positioning itself at the center of India’s next phase of economic and technological growth.
Speaking at the company’s Annual General Meeting (AGM), Chairman Mukesh Ambani said abundant and affordable green energy will be a critical driver of India’s future development. He emphasized that clean energy can help India emerge as a global leader in Green AI, sustainable manufacturing, and green job creation, while strengthening the country’s energy security and reducing reliance on imported fuels.
Reliance Bets Big on India’s Clean Energy Future
Highlighting the company’s renewable energy vision, Anant Ambani said India has the potential to become a global clean energy powerhouse through investments in solar energy, batteries, green fuels, and advanced manufacturing.
“The world built its old energy on Middle Eastern oil. The world will now build its new energy on Indian sunshine,” he said.
According to Reliance, its clean energy transition is expected to generate livelihoods for nearly 200,000 people across engineering, construction, operations, agriculture, and entrepreneurship. The company believes the initiative will reduce import dependence, enhance exports, lower energy costs, and support inclusive economic growth.
40 GWh Battery Gigafactory Nears Completion
Reliance also announced significant progress on its battery manufacturing plans. The company’s first 40 GWh battery cell gigafactory is on track for commissioning this year, with all major equipment already delivered.
Anant Ambani said Reliance intends to expand capacity to 120 GWh annually, which would place the company among the world’s largest manufacturers of lithium iron phosphate (LFP) batteries, a key technology supporting electric mobility and renewable energy storage.
Green Energy to Power India’s AI Revolution
Reliance linked its clean energy ambitions with India’s emerging AI ecosystem. Mukesh Ambani noted that low-cost renewable energy could become India’s biggest competitive advantage in powering data centers, AI infrastructure, and advanced digital services.
Meanwhile, Akash Ambani announced that Reliance is developing a sovereign AI infrastructure platform in Jamnagar, with the first 120 MW phase expected to become operational by the end of 2026. The facility will provide India-based AI hosting capabilities, enabling enterprises to deploy and manage AI models domestically while maintaining control over their data.
Building an Integrated Clean-Tech Ecosystem
Beyond renewable energy and batteries, Reliance is investing in satellite connectivity, AI-driven services, advanced manufacturing, and consumer products. The company is also exploring a sovereign low-Earth orbit satellite constellation through Jio while strengthening India’s digital connectivity infrastructure.
Industry observers view Reliance’s latest announcements as a strategic effort to integrate clean energy, energy storage, artificial intelligence, and digital infrastructure into a unified growth platform. If executed successfully, the strategy could significantly contribute to India’s energy transition, manufacturing competitiveness, and technological self-reliance over the coming decade.
