Nvidia is reportedly in discussions to invest in AI search startup Perplexity as part of a new funding round that could value the company at more than $30 billion, according to The Information.
If completed, the investment would represent a major jump in Perplexity’s valuation — more than 50% higher than its previous $20 billion valuation in 2025.
Perplexity’s rapid growth appears to be driving the renewed investor interest. The AI startup’s annualised revenue has reportedly crossed $750 million, up from less than $250 million at the beginning of the year.
A significant contributor to that growth is Perplexity Computer, a cloud-based AI agent designed to automate computer-based tasks for professional users. The product reflects Perplexity’s broader shift from being primarily an AI search engine toward becoming an AI agent platform capable of performing tasks on behalf of users.
Nvidia Bets on the AI Agent Race
For Nvidia, the potential investment would further strengthen its position across the rapidly expanding AI ecosystem. Beyond supplying the GPUs powering today’s AI infrastructure, Nvidia has increasingly invested in promising AI companies and technologies.
Perplexity already has an impressive group of backers, including Amazon founder Jeff Bezos and SoftBank Group. The company has also reportedly secured a $750 million cloud-services agreement with Microsoft Azure.
The startup is now targeting another major milestone: CEO Aravind Srinivas has said Perplexity plans to pursue an IPO in 2028, regardless of how upcoming listings from AI giants such as Anthropic and OpenAI perform.
If Nvidia’s investment goes through at a valuation above $30 billion, it would underline just how quickly investors are assigning value to companies building the next generation of AI search and autonomous agents.
The discussions are reportedly ongoing, and neither Nvidia nor Perplexity has confirmed the investment.
