New Delhi, June 26: NLC India Renewables Limited (NIRL), a wholly owned subsidiary of NLC India Limited, has signed a joint venture agreement with the Odisha Renewable Energy Development Agency (OREDA) to develop 1,000 MW of green energy projects in Odisha during the first phase of their partnership.
According to the company, the joint venture will focus on establishing, operating, and maintaining renewable energy projects across the state, subject to techno-commercial feasibility and the necessary approvals from relevant authorities, including the respective boards, state and central governments, and the Ministry of Coal.
The first phase of the collaboration will involve the installation of 1,000 MW of renewable energy capacity, with the partnership also exploring the development of additional green energy assets and related infrastructure through both forward and backward integration.
The initiative is expected to support Odisha’s clean energy transition while strengthening the state’s renewable power generation capacity. It also aligns with India’s broader objective of expanding non-fossil fuel energy sources and accelerating the adoption of sustainable technologies.
The partnership will evaluate a wide range of renewable energy solutions, including solar power, wind energy, hybrid renewable projects, battery energy storage systems (BESS), pumped hydro storage, green hydrogen, and other emerging clean energy technologies.
Officials said the collaboration represents an important step in NLC India’s strategy to diversify beyond its traditional energy portfolio and strengthen its presence in the renewable energy sector.
The joint venture agreement was signed on June 23, 2026, by representatives of NLC India Renewables and OREDA, marking the beginning of a long-term collaboration aimed at supporting Odisha’s renewable energy ambitions while contributing to India’s clean energy and decarbonisation goals.
The project is expected to play a key role in expanding green energy infrastructure in eastern India and promoting sustainable economic development through large-scale renewable energy investments.
