Union Home Minister Amit Shah virtually inaugurated the Ahmedabad Heritage Park, a heritage-themed public space developed by the UNM Foundation, the philanthropic arm of the promoters of the Torrent Group. Located on the eastern bank of the Sabarmati River, the park has been created to celebrate Ahmedabad’s rich cultural, historical and architectural legacy while offering citizens a unique recreational space.
Developed in partnership with the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC), the ₹10-crore Heritage Park spans nearly 20,000 square metres between Swami Vivekananda Bridge and Nehru Bridge. It is the 12th public park developed and maintained by the UNM Foundation under its Pratiti urban renewal initiative, which focuses on creating sustainable and inclusive public spaces across Gujarat.
The park showcases Ahmedabad’s evolution through five permanent heritage installations, highlighting the city’s ruling dynasties, the historic Royal Axis connecting Bhadra Fort, Teen Darwaza and Jama Masjid, the traditional Mata ni Pachhedi folk art, the transformation of Ahmedabad’s urban centre and the historic circus grounds that once existed along the Sabarmati riverbed. Designed as a “living canvas,” the park combines history, culture and public engagement through interactive exhibits.
With the inauguration of the Heritage Park, the UNM Foundation now maintains 12 public parks across Ahmedabad, covering more than 1.5 lakh square metres, representing over 15% of the city’s total green area. The foundation is also developing four additional parks spanning more than 40,000 square metres.
Under its broader Pratiti initiative, the foundation has restored and maintains 17 parks, two lakes and several other green spaces across Gujarat, covering a combined area of 8.44 lakh square metres. It has also committed to restoring and maintaining 69 lakes in and around Ahmedabad and Gandhinagar as part of its urban sustainability efforts.
The UNM Foundation stated that its philanthropic work across healthcare, education, ecology, art and culture has positively impacted more than 25 million people across Gujarat, Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh and the Union Territory of Daman. The Heritage Park is expected to become another landmark promoting heritage conservation, environmental sustainability and community engagement in Ahmedabad.
