July 2: Touchwood Shopping Centre has been honoured with two Commonwealth Environment & Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Awards, recognising its achievements in environmental sustainability and diversity and inclusion. The recognition places the shopping centre among the world’s leading organisations in corporate responsibility, with the winners selected from more than 400 entries globally.
The awards celebrate organisations that have demonstrated exceptional performance in sustainability, community engagement and inclusive business practices. Touchwood will officially receive the honours during a ceremony to be held alongside the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow on July 31, 2026.
Following its success, Touchwood has also been invited to represent England at the prestigious Green World Awards in Fiji, an international platform showcasing global excellence in environmental management and corporate social responsibility.
A major factor behind the sustainability award was the implementation of the Intelligent Building Optimisation System (IBOS) in July 2025. Introduced to improve the efficiency of the shopping centre’s mechanical and electrical infrastructure, the smart energy management system helped reduce overall energy consumption by 18%, generating annual savings of £47,479 while cutting 72,220 kilograms of CO₂ equivalent emissions. The investment achieved full payback in less than five months, demonstrating both environmental and financial benefits.
Touchwood also received recognition for its commitment to diversity and inclusion through initiatives aimed at creating a welcoming environment for all visitors. Judges highlighted the centre’s cultural celebrations, community engagement programmes, improved accessibility infrastructure and staff training initiatives designed to ensure customers from all backgrounds feel represented, supported and included.
In recognition of its achievements, Touchwood has been awarded Green World Ambassador and CSR World Leader status. Its sustainability and CSR initiatives will also be featured in The Green Book, one of the world’s leading reference publications on environmental and corporate social responsibility best practices, allowing organisations across the globe to learn from its successful initiatives.
Commenting on the achievement, Tony Elvin, General Manager of Touchwood Shopping Centre, said the awards recognise both the centre’s commitment to creating an inclusive destination and its successful partnership with the Workman LLP IBOS team, which significantly reduced energy consumption while minimising environmental impact.
The Commonwealth Environment & CSR Awards are organised by The Green Organisation, an independent non-profit body established in 1994 to recognise, reward and promote excellence in environmental sustainability and corporate social responsibility worldwide.
