New Delhi, June 24: CSI Lombard Memorial (Mission) Hospital in Udupi has been honoured with the H.E.L.P Sustainability Excellence Award 2026 for Best Green Energy Efficiency Practices, recognising its efforts to promote sustainable healthcare and environmentally responsible hospital operations.
The national-level award was presented by the Health and Environment Leadership Platform (H.E.L.P) during its international conference held recently in Hyderabad. The recognition highlights the hospital’s leadership in adopting green energy solutions, improving energy efficiency, and reducing the environmental footprint of healthcare services.
The award follows the hospital’s implementation of its INSPIRE Green Hospital Project, launched in June 2024 with the goal of making healthcare delivery more sustainable. Under the initiative, the hospital introduced a range of measures including the installation of solar power systems, carbon footprint assessment, energy and water conservation practices, improved waste segregation and management, campus greening, biodiversity conservation, and awareness programmes focused on climate change and sustainability.
A major part of the hospital’s green transition has been the large-scale installation of solar rooftop systems at its Udupi campus, aimed at increasing the use of renewable energy and lowering dependence on conventional power sources.
The H.E.L.P Sustainability Excellence Awards recognise hospitals that demonstrate strong leadership and measurable progress in areas such as energy efficiency, renewable energy adoption, and resource conservation. The recognition comes at a time when the healthcare sector is increasingly focusing on sustainability, given its significant contribution to global greenhouse gas emissions.
Hospital officials said the award reflects a long-term commitment to integrating environmental responsibility into healthcare delivery. The hospital also acknowledged the support of the Lombard Foundation, Switzerland, and its advisers in helping advance its sustainability initiatives.
With healthcare institutions across the world placing greater emphasis on green infrastructure and climate-conscious operations, the recognition positions CSI Lombard Memorial Hospital as a notable example of sustainable healthcare transformation in India.
