Gurgaon : Mosaic India and the S M Sehgal Foundation celebrated The Mosaic Company Foundation’s ninth annual awards, honoring outstanding research in plant nutrition, at a ceremony on October 24, 2024.
Mosaic Company Foundation Awards for Plant Nutrition Research
The ‘Outstanding Doctoral Research Award’ is presented by The Mosaic Company Foundation to individuals who demonstrate exceptional ability and originality of thought in contributing to the field of plant nutrition.
The ‘Young Scientist Award’ recognizes outstanding research, innovation, and outreach in plant nutrition. Additionally, this award fosters connections within the scientific community to promote the balanced use of plant nutrients.
These awards honor thought leaders in the Indian scientific community who champion the use of potash, sulfur, and zinc in promoting balanced crop nutrition. This year’s four awardees include Dr. Gopal Ramdas Mahajan and Dr. Jayanta Layek (Young Scientist Award, Joint); Dr. Swayambhu Ghosh (Outstanding Doctoral Research Award); and Dr. Mohsina Anjum (Outstanding Doctoral Research Award for Women). Each honoree received a certificate, gold medal, blazer, and a monetary award.
Dr. Sanjay Kumar, Chairman of the Agricultural Scientists Recruitment Board (ASRB) in New Delhi, served as Chief Guest. He congratulated The Mosaic Company Foundation on this unique initiative to promote research in plant nutrition.
Keynote addresses were delivered by Mr. Benjamin Pratt, Vice President of Government & Public Affairs, The Mosaic Company; Dr. J. C. Katyal, former Vice Chancellor of HAU, Hisar; and Mr. Floris Bielders, Vice President of Commercial, Biosciences Product Management, The Mosaic Company.
Mr. Robin Edwin, Managing Director of Mosaic India Pvt. Ltd., shared, “It is an honor for Mosaic to recognize agricultural scientists who have made exceptional contributions to plant nutrition. I congratulate our esteemed jury for conducting a rigorous selection process. Mosaic is committed to sustainably strengthening global food security and protecting critical water resources.”
In introducing the S M Sehgal Foundation, Ms. Anjali Makhija, Trustee and CEO, highlighted the ‘Krishi Jyoti’ initiative, a longstanding partnership between Mosaic and the S M Sehgal Foundation that impacts lives in 274 villages across five states. She added that these awards reflect the commitment both organizations have to agricultural development.
The ceremony was attended by invited members from the scientific agricultural community, including representatives from the Indian Council of Agricultural Research, the Indian Agricultural Research Institute, the Indian Institute of Soil Science, National Research Centres, State Agricultural Universities, the Fertilizer Association of India, the International Zinc Association, IPNI, CIMMYT, along with government officials and representatives from other national and international institutions.
