Bundelkhand’s industrial landscape is set for a major boost with the proposed establishment of a ₹1,500 crore green hydrogen plant in the Karampur Industrial Area near Bina in Madhya Pradesh’s Sagar district. The project is expected to accelerate industrial development in the region while generating around 1,000 local employment opportunities.
The proposed facility will produce green hydrogen through the electrolysis of water and is expected to support the operations of the Bina Refinery and fertilizer manufacturing industries.
Green Hydrogen Facility Planned Near Bina
According to officials from the Madhya Pradesh Industrial Development Corporation (MPIDC), discussions have been held with TKIL for setting up the plant, and technical teams have already inspected the proposed project site.
The project is currently in the land allotment stage. Following the completion of statutory approvals and other formalities, construction is expected to begin, with the plant targeted to become operational within the next two years.
Supporting Bundelkhand’s Industrial Development
Although Sagar district is home to Madhya Pradesh’s only refinery at Bina, the Bundelkhand region has historically witnessed limited industrial development.
In recent years, industrial infrastructure has expanded across Sagar, Sidgunwa, Maswasi Grunt, Bina, Rahli and Khurai, creating new opportunities for manufacturing and investment. The proposed green hydrogen project is expected to further strengthen the region’s industrial ecosystem.
Supplying Clean Fuel to Industry
The facility will use renewable energy-powered electrolysis to separate hydrogen and oxygen from water, making it a low-emission green hydrogen production plant.
The green hydrogen produced will primarily be supplied to the Bina Refinery as a clean fuel and is also expected to support fertilizer production and emerging hydrogen-based mobility applications.
The oxygen generated during the electrolysis process will be supplied to hospitals and industrial units, providing an additional commercial and social benefit.
The project is expected to require around 0.5 million litres of water per day, which officials said will be sourced locally.
Employment and Sustainable Growth
The project is expected to create around 1,000 employment opportunities during construction and operations, providing a significant boost to local livelihoods.
Officials said the plant has been designed as a green energy-based facility, contributing to cleaner industrial processes while supporting India’s transition towards low-carbon energy and sustainable manufacturing.
If completed as planned, the project will strengthen Madhya Pradesh’s emerging green hydrogen ecosystem while reinforcing Bundelkhand’s position as a growing industrial and clean energy hub.
