Sydney, 23 June: TECO Australia & New Zealand (TAC), a subsidiary of Taiwan-based TECO Electric & Machinery Co. Ltd., has expanded its footprint in Australia’s renewable energy sector through a strategic investment in the Seaspray Solar and Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) project in Victoria and participation in the upcoming Tranche 2 energy portfolio.
The move marks another step in TECO’s transformation from an industrial equipment manufacturer to a comprehensive energy solutions provider, while reinforcing its commitment to supporting Australia’s clean energy transition.
Investment in Solar and Energy Storage
The Seaspray project combines a 5.48 MWp solar power plant with an 11 MWh battery energy storage system, aimed at enhancing grid stability and supporting greater integration of renewable energy.
Through a joint venture with Billion Watts and Tun Green Power, TECO has secured a 45% stake in the project and is expected to undertake the Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) responsibilities.
In addition, TECO will participate in the forthcoming Tranche 2 portfolio, which is expected to deliver 50 MW of solar capacity and 200 MWh of battery storage.
Supporting Australia’s Energy Transition
Stuart Walker, President of TECO Australia & New Zealand, said energy storage is becoming increasingly important as Australia accelerates its transition toward cleaner energy sources.
“By investing in solar and battery storage infrastructure, we aim to contribute to a more reliable, resilient, and sustainable energy future while supporting local communities and strengthening the nation’s energy security,” Walker said.
Supplying Critical Power Infrastructure
As part of the Tranche 2 portfolio, TECO plans to supply key power infrastructure equipment, including high-efficiency transformers, ring main units (RMUs), and switchgear systems.
The company said these projects further strengthen its role as a long-term partner in Australia’s evolving energy infrastructure landscape.
Expanding Renewable Energy Capabilities
TECO has operated in Australia for more than four decades, initially supplying motors, power systems, and HVAC equipment before gradually expanding into renewable energy and power infrastructure development.
According to Walker, the Seaspray and Tranche 2 projects highlight TECO’s growing capabilities in energy engineering, project delivery, equipment supply, and integrated power solutions.
Focus on Australia and Oceania
Looking ahead, TECO plans to leverage its engineering expertise, advanced power technologies, and energy management capabilities to further expand its renewable energy portfolio across Australia and Oceania.
The company said it remains committed to driving innovation, building local partnerships, and contributing to a cleaner, safer, and more resilient energy future through renewable energy and storage investments.
