Taj Exotica Resort & Spa, Goa has strengthened its sustainability efforts with the installation of a 265 kWp rooftop solar PV system in partnership with Tata Power Renewables, bringing renewable energy into the operations of the luxury hospitality property.
The project is aimed at reducing the resort’s dependence on conventional electricity, improving long-term energy efficiency and supporting the sustainability goals of Indian Hotels Company Limited (IHCL).
265 kWp Rooftop Solar Powers Resort Operations
For a large luxury resort, electricity is required across guest rooms, restaurants, common areas, service facilities and back-end operations.
The rooftop solar installation allows Taj Exotica to utilise its available rooftop space as an on-site renewable energy asset.
During periods of strong sunlight, the system is expected to generate approximately 25,000–30,000 units of electricity per month, contributing to the resort’s energy requirements.
OPEX Model Reduces Upfront Investment
The project has been implemented under an OPEX solar model, where a third-party renewable energy developer installs, owns and operates the solar system.
Under this model, the business does not need to make a large upfront investment in the solar asset. Instead, it pays for the electricity generated and consumed, typically through a long-term Power Purchase Agreement.
The model can help commercial establishments adopt renewable energy while reducing upfront capital requirements and operational responsibilities.

Taj Exotica required a renewable energy system that could deliver energy savings without compromising the standards expected from a premium hospitality property.
