New Delhi : The STAIRS Foundation, a National Sports Promotion Organization recognized by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, has announced the rescheduling of the Delhi Against Drugs (DAD) 10K Run to March 2025. Originally set for November 17, 2024, the decision was made in light of the deteriorating air quality in Delhi, prioritizing the health and safety of participants.
The DAD 10K Run is an initiative aimed at raising awareness about substance abuse and promoting a drug-free future for youth. However, with Delhi’s air quality reaching hazardous levels, the foundation has decided to postpone the event to avoid exposing participants to health risks associated with outdoor activities in poor air conditions.
Nikhil Nanda, Lead of STAIRS Against Drugs and Board Member of STAIRS Foundation, explained, “While the event was initially planned for November to address the critical issue of substance abuse, the current air quality poses significant health risks. Studies have shown that air pollution is a leading cause of mortality in India’s cities, particularly in Delhi, which sees around 12,000 air pollution-related deaths annually.”
The foundation emphasized that while the event will be postponed, efforts to raise awareness about substance abuse will continue in collaboration with various partners. Siddhartha Upadhyay, Founder and President of STAIRS Foundation, further added, “We deeply regret the need to reschedule but remain committed to ensuring the health of our participants. We will continue to engage with stakeholders to raise awareness about substance abuse and look forward to a safer, impactful event in March.”
The DAD 10K Run is a key initiative supported by diverse stakeholders from law enforcement, business, academia, and the public sector, all working together to combat substance abuse. The run serves as a platform to engage communities in the fight against drugs, particularly among the youth. STAIRS Foundation’s programs align with several United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), including good health, education, gender equality, and sustainable cities.
STAIRS Foundation, established in 2000, is committed to empowering India’s youth through sports and development programs. With a reach across 26 states and 480 districts, STAIRS positively impacts millions of lives, fostering talent and promoting education, health, and skill development.
The new date for the DAD 10K Run will be announced in due course.
