New Delhi, 18 June: Global lighting leader Signify (Euronext: LIGHT) has reaffirmed its commitment to building safer, more resilient, and sustainable rural communities through its flagship CSR programme, , at the Human-Animal Conflict: Challenges and Future Strategy event held at Dudhwa National Park, Uttar Pradesh.
The event brought together policymakers, forest officials, conservation experts, and representatives from local communities to discuss solutions for addressing the growing challenge of human-wildlife conflict in forest fringe areas. Among the dignitaries present were Dr. Arun Kumar Saxena, Minister of State (Independent Charge), and Shri K.P. Malik, Minister of State, Forest, Environment and Zoological Parks Department, Government of Uttar Pradesh. Senior officials including V. Hekali Zhimomi, IAS, Principal Secretary, Environment, Forest and Climate Change Department, and Anuradha Vemuri, Principal Chief Conservator of Forests (Wildlife), also participated in the discussions.
Over 400 Villages Benefited Since 2019
As part of the event, Signify highlighted the achievements of its Har Gaon Roshan initiative, which has positively impacted more than 400 forest fringe villages across Uttar Pradesh since 2019. The programme has facilitated the installation of over 9,000 LED streetlights in villages located around Dudhwa, Pilibhit and Amangarh Tiger Reserves, Katarniaghat Wildlife Sanctuary, Nagina, Chitrakoot, and Bahraich, helping improve safety and public infrastructure in rural areas.
Expansion Planned in Human-Wildlife Conflict Zones
Signify also presented a Letter of Intent (LoI) to install an additional 1,500 LED streetlights across 67 villages in the Katarniaghat landscape, an area experiencing a high incidence of human-wildlife conflict. The company believes improved lighting can enhance community safety and reduce vulnerabilities in these regions.
Coffee Table Book Showcases Community Impact
During the event, Signify launched a coffee table book documenting the impact of its recent interventions around Dudhwa National Park. The publication features real-life stories from local residents, illustrating how access to reliable lighting has contributed to safer public spaces, improved mobility, and stronger community resilience.
Government Appreciates CSR Contribution
Addressing the gathering, Dr. Arun Kumar Saxena stressed the importance of collaborative efforts involving government agencies, local communities, experts, civil society organisations, and corporate CSR initiatives to address human-wildlife conflict effectively. He praised Signify’s contribution to rural development and community safety through the Har Gaon Roshan programme and welcomed its continued support for forest fringe communities across Uttar Pradesh.
