Samsung Group is reportedly preparing to unveil a 1,000 trillion won (approximately $648 billion) long-term investment plan aimed at strengthening South Korea’s leadership in artificial intelligence, semiconductors, batteries, and advanced manufacturing over the next decade.
According to media reports, the investment blueprint is expected to be presented during a meeting with South Korean President Lee Jae Myung, where leading technology companies will outline strategies to drive the country’s next phase of economic growth.
A key component of the proposed plan includes a potential 300 trillion won investment to establish large-scale semiconductor manufacturing facilities in southwestern South Korea. The initiative is expected to support rising global demand for advanced AI chips while promoting balanced regional economic development beyond the Seoul metropolitan area.
The broader investment programme is also expected to cover AI data centres, battery technologies, display manufacturing, and other next-generation digital infrastructure, reinforcing South Korea’s competitiveness in emerging industries.
The reported strategy reflects the country’s growing focus on artificial intelligence as a key economic priority. Rapid growth in AI applications has significantly increased demand for advanced memory chips, prompting companies to accelerate expansion plans to meet future requirements.
Industry officials have indicated that existing semiconductor production clusters around Seoul face constraints related to land, power supply, and water resources, making regional expansion increasingly important for sustaining long-term manufacturing growth.
Senior executives from Samsung and other major technology companies are expected to participate in discussions on expanding investments across multiple regions, supporting job creation, innovation ecosystems, and new industrial hubs throughout the country.
The South Korean government has also announced plans to introduce several large-scale national development projects aimed at accelerating economic growth and strengthening the country’s technology leadership.
While Samsung has not officially confirmed the reported investment figures, the proposed initiative highlights the growing importance of artificial intelligence and semiconductor manufacturing in shaping South Korea’s industrial strategy. If implemented, it would represent one of the largest corporate investment programmes in the country’s history and further strengthen Samsung’s position in the global AI and semiconductor industry.
