Dr. Imkongliba Memorial District Hospital (IMDH) in Mokokchung, Nagaland, has received a major boost to its emergency healthcare services after the Power Grid Corporation of India Limited (POWERGRID) donated a fully equipped Advanced Life Support (ALS) ambulance under its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programme.
The ambulance, valued at ₹32.06 lakh, was inaugurated and flagged off by Nagaland Legislative Assembly Speaker Sharingain Longkumer. Equipped with advanced life-saving equipment, including a ventilator, defibrillator, infusion pumps and multi-parameter monitors, the ambulance is expected to significantly improve emergency medical response and the safe transportation of critically ill patients across Mokokchung district.
Speaking at the inauguration ceremony, Sharingain Longkumer said the ALS ambulance would help bridge a long-standing gap in emergency healthcare, particularly during the critical “golden hour” when timely medical intervention can save lives. He recalled that the proposal for the ambulance was first conceived during the COVID-19 pandemic after witnessing the lack of advanced emergency transport facilities and the tragic loss of patients who could not be shifted to higher medical centres in time.
Longkumer thanked POWERGRID for approving the project under its CSR initiative and appreciated the district administration and medical authorities for ensuring its successful implementation. He also urged hospital authorities to maintain the ambulance properly so that it remains operational for years to come and appealed to the public to use the facility responsibly.
Deputy Commissioner Ajit Kumar Verma described the ambulance as critical life-saving infrastructure for the district. He highlighted that patients from Mokokchung often require referrals to hospitals in Dimapur and neighbouring Assam, where the availability of advanced life support during transportation can make the difference between life and death.
Verma also noted that Dr. Imkongliba Memorial District Hospital serves not only Mokokchung but also neighbouring districts, making it an important regional referral centre. He expressed hope that more CSR partnerships would support future healthcare infrastructure projects, including the hospital’s upcoming Critical Care Unit.
Representing POWERGRID, Chief Manager Thapana Deori Gogoi said that while the company primarily focuses on electricity transmission, it remains committed to community development through impactful CSR initiatives. She expressed confidence that the new ambulance would help ensure timely medical care for patients during emergencies and improve healthcare delivery across the region.
Medical Superintendent Dr. Alemwabang Aier described the ambulance as a “lifeline” for the district, explaining that its advanced equipment will allow doctors and paramedics to stabilise critically ill patients during transit, particularly those suffering from trauma, cardiac arrest, respiratory emergencies and serious accidents. He added that the facility would strengthen emergency healthcare access in rural and remote areas, where timely transportation often determines patient survival.
The project reflects POWERGRID’s continued commitment to improving healthcare infrastructure through CSR while addressing one of the region’s most pressing healthcare challenges—providing advanced emergency medical care during patient transportation.
