New Delhi : The Prime Minister Internship Scheme, launched by the Ministry of Corporate Affairs, has attracted over 1.55 lakh applications within just two days, surpassing its initial target of 1.25 lakh. Open to individuals aged 21-24, the 12-month internships will begin on December 2, providing a monthly stipend of Rs 5,000 and a one-time grant of Rs 6,000.
In the first 24 hours, the scheme received 1,55,109 applications after going live at 5 pm on Saturday. The program, implemented through the portal ‘www.pminternship.mca.gov.in’, offers opportunities in over 80,000 positions across 24 sectors, including oil, gas, travel, hospitality, and automotive industries.
The scheme, announced in the Union Budget 2024 by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, is a pilot project with an estimated cost of Rs 800 crore. It aims to provide internship opportunities with India’s top 500 companies. The selection process is designed to be fair, socially inclusive, and tech-driven, utilizing Aadhaar-based registration and tools like bio-data generation.
