NTPC Green Energy Limited has expanded its renewable energy portfolio with the commercial operation of 68.22 MW of solar capacity at its Dahod Solar PV Project in Gujarat. The newly operational capacity, developed through wholly owned subsidiary NTPC Renewable Energy Limited, takes the NTPC Green Energy group’s installed capacity to 10,911.08 MW.
The 68.22 MW capacity forms the third part of the larger 200 MW Gujarat Solar PV Project at Dahod. Although the commercial operation was formally disclosed in September, the capacity has been declared commercially operational with effect from July 23, 2026.
The development comes as NTPC Green Energy continues to add utility-scale renewable assets across India, with solar and wind projects forming a major part of its expansion programme.
68.22 MW Dahod Capacity Declared Commercial
According to NTPC’s corporate disclosure, the 68.22 MW third-part capacity of the 200 MW Gujarat Solar PV Project at Dahod was declared commercially operational based on a certificate issued by the Gujarat Energy Development Agency (GEDA) on September 17, 2026.
The project is being executed by NTPC Renewable Energy Limited, a wholly owned subsidiary of NTPC Green Energy.
Following the addition, the group’s installed capacity increased from 10,842.86 MW to 10,911.08 MW, taking its total installed renewable portfolio beyond the 10.9 GW mark.
The commercial operation declaration represents another phased addition to the Dahod project rather than completion of the entire 200 MW facility.
Dahod Project Progresses Through Phased Commissioning
The Dahod facility is being developed as a 200 MW solar PV project, with capacity being brought into commercial operation in stages.
The latest 68.22 MW addition represents the third part of the project. Phased commissioning allows individual sections of a large renewable project to become operational as they meet the required technical and regulatory conditions.
NTPC Green Energy’s official announcements also show other renewable projects being commissioned in separate phases across Gujarat and other states.
NTPC Green Energy Continues Capacity Expansion
The Dahod commissioning is part of a broader series of capacity additions by NTPC Green Energy during 2026.
The company’s recent disclosures include the commissioning of additional capacity from the Vanki Wind Energy Project in Nakhatrana, Kutch, Gujarat, including a 6.3 MW portion declared commercial in September.
On September 19, NTPC also disclosed that another 9.45 MW portion of the Vanki Wind Energy Project had commenced commercial operation with effect from September 19. This subsequent addition took NTPC Green Energy’s group installed capacity to 10,920.53 MW.
Therefore, while the Dahod project disclosure puts the group’s capacity at 10,911.08 MW, the company’s subsequent Vanki wind commissioning has taken the latest reported figure higher.
NTPC Group Capacity Also Rises
The renewable additions are also contributing to the expansion of the wider NTPC Group’s generation portfolio.
Following the September 19 solar and wind project declarations, NTPC reported that the total installed capacity of the NTPC Group stood at 91,164 MW, while commercial capacity reached 90,084 MW.
The developments demonstrate how NTPC’s renewable-energy arm is increasingly contributing to the group’s overall generation capacity as India expands its non-fossil electricity infrastructure.
Renewable Expansion Supports India’s Clean Energy Transition
Large-scale solar projects such as Dahod are part of India’s wider effort to increase renewable and non-fossil electricity generation.
Utility-scale solar capacity has become an important component of India’s renewable-energy expansion, with public-sector companies such as NTPC developing projects across multiple states.
For NTPC Green Energy, the expansion also involves a mix of solar, wind, round-the-clock renewable energy and energy-storage projects.
The company recently announced that NTPC Renewable Energy had secured 500 MW in SECI’s assured peak-power tender and that NTPC Green Energy had won 200 MW/800 MWh of standalone battery energy-storage capacity from West Bengal State Electricity Distribution Company Limited.
These developments point to a broader shift from standalone renewable generation towards portfolios combining renewable generation with storage and firm power-delivery capabilities.
Focus on Further Project Execution
The remaining capacity of the 200 MW Dahod Solar PV Project will be another milestone to watch as NTPC Green Energy continues its project-development programme.
The latest commissioning adds 68.22 MW of operational solar capacity while taking the group’s installed capacity above 10.9 GW. Subsequent wind additions have pushed that figure further, highlighting the pace at which the company’s renewable portfolio is expanding.
With additional solar, wind, storage and firm renewable-power projects under development, the execution and commercial commissioning of these assets will remain important to NTPC Green Energy’s ongoing capacity growth.
