NLC India Renewables Limited (NIRL), a wholly owned subsidiary of NLC India Limited (NLCIL), has received a Letter of Intent (LoI) from Gujarat Urja Vikas Nigam Limited (GUVNL) for the development of a 900 MW solar power project in Gujarat.
The project was awarded through a tariff-based competitive bidding process, with GUVNL set to procure the electricity generated from the plant. The award marks another significant milestone in NIRL’s renewable energy expansion strategy and supports NLC India Limited’s long-term clean energy ambitions.
Project Award Through Competitive Bidding
The 900 MW solar project has been secured under a transparent competitive bidding process conducted by GUVNL, Gujarat’s state power procurement agency.
Under the agreement:
- Project Capacity: 900 MW
- Location: Gujarat
- Power Purchaser: Gujarat Urja Vikas Nigam Limited (GUVNL)
- Award Basis: Tariff-based competitive bidding
The project will contribute to strengthening Gujarat’s renewable energy capacity while supporting India’s clean energy transition.
Supporting NLCIL’s Renewable Energy Growth
NLC India Limited said the project further expands the renewable energy portfolio of NIRL and aligns with the company’s strategic objective of becoming a 10+ GW renewable energy company by 2030.
NIRL was incorporated in 2023 as a wholly owned subsidiary of NLC India Limited to consolidate, own and manage the company’s renewable energy assets while driving future green energy expansion.
The company has been established to oversee the acquisition, development and operation of renewable energy projects, enabling NLCIL to accelerate its transition from a conventional power producer to a diversified clean energy company.
Strengthening India’s Clean Energy Transition
The latest project reflects the increasing pace of utility-scale solar development across India as states continue to expand renewable energy capacity to meet rising electricity demand and national climate targets.
Large-scale solar projects such as the 900 MW Gujarat project are expected to play a key role in enhancing clean power generation, reducing dependence on fossil fuels and supporting India’s long-term goal of expanding renewable energy capacity.
With this addition, NIRL continues to strengthen its position in India’s renewable energy sector while advancing NLC India Limited’s vision of becoming a leading renewable energy developer over the coming decade.
