Banjul, The Gambia, November 23 : On the occasion of the “International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women 2024,” Merck Foundation, the philanthropic arm of Merck KGaA Germany, in collaboration with First Ladies of Africa and Asia, highlighted its impactful initiatives through the More Than a Mother campaign and Educating Linda program.
These programs focus on raising awareness about gender-based violence (GBV), empowering women and girls, and promoting education for girls. Senator Dr. Rasha Kelej, CEO of Merck Foundation, emphasized the role of education in women’s empowerment and its importance in eradicating violence. “Through initiatives like storybooks, inspiring songs, and TV programs such as Our Africa, we are committed to creating a world free from violence and inequality,” she said.
The Foundation also launched children’s storybooks, such as Not Who You Are and Educating Linda, alongside animated films in multiple languages to address social issues and support girl education. Additionally, empowering songs like *Like Them* and *Take Me to School* have been released, spreading messages of equality and education.
Dr. Kelej urged communities to unite in ending GBV and empowering women, reinforcing Merck Foundation’s commitment to human rights and equality.
