Indian Renewable Energy Development Agency Limited (IREDA) Chairman and Managing Director Bijay Kumar Mohanty has received the CSR Lifetime Achievement Award at BridgeBharat 2026, recognising his long-standing contribution to corporate social responsibility, inclusive development and community welfare.
The award was presented by Odisha Governor Hari Babu Kambhampati at a ceremony in Bhubaneswar. The event was organised by the Odisha Corporate Foundation in collaboration with the Public Enterprise Department, Government of Odisha.
Recognition for More Than 27 Years of Contribution
The CSR Lifetime Achievement Award recognises Mohanty’s more than 27-year contribution to CSR and inclusive development.
His work has included initiatives aimed at extending essential services and improving living conditions in underserved communities. Among the major programmes associated with his work are the Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Gram Jyoti Yojana (DDUGJY) and Saubhagya, which focused on expanding electricity access to rural and underserved regions, including areas in the North-East.
These initiatives played an important role in improving access to basic electricity infrastructure for communities that historically faced limited connectivity.
Focus on Education, Healthcare and Vulnerable Communities
Beyond energy access, Mohanty’s CSR efforts have covered several areas of social development.
His initiatives have included education and skill development, healthcare and rehabilitation, access to safe drinking water, accessibility and support for vulnerable communities.
The approach reflects a broader understanding of CSR in which infrastructure development is combined with programmes intended to improve social and economic opportunities for communities.
Skill development and education initiatives, in particular, can help strengthen employability and create longer-term economic opportunities for beneficiaries, while healthcare and rehabilitation programmes address immediate social needs.
Clean Energy and Inclusive Development
Accepting the recognition, Mohanty expressed gratitude for the award and said it reaffirmed his belief that clean energy and inclusive development must go hand in hand.
He dedicated the recognition to the shared vision of combining clean energy with inclusive development, highlighting the connection between India’s renewable-energy transition and the need to ensure that its benefits reach communities across the country.
For IREDA, the recognition also comes in the context of India’s rapidly expanding renewable-energy sector and the increasing importance of linking clean-energy development with broader social and economic outcomes.
Acknowledges Support from Ministry and IREDA Board
Mohanty also acknowledged the guidance and support extended by the Union Minister for New and Renewable Energy, the Minister of State for New and Renewable Energy, the Secretary of the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy and the IREDA Board of Directors.
The recognition at BridgeBharat 2026 highlights the role of senior public-sector leadership in integrating CSR, inclusive development and India’s wider clean-energy objectives.
As India continues to expand renewable-energy capacity, initiatives that combine energy access with education, healthcare, skill development and community welfare are expected to remain an important part of the country’s broader sustainable-development agenda.
