Indian Bank has announced Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) assistance worth approximately ₹1.32 crore for projects focused on clean energy, healthcare and education in Uttar Pradesh. The commitments were made during a visit by the bank’s Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Binod Kumar, to Lucknow from October 29 to 31, during which he met Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and other senior state officials.
The CSR support includes funding for a compressed biogas plant in Tulsipur, Balrampur, and healthcare and educational initiatives at King George’s Medical University (KGMU) in Lucknow. The initiatives are aimed at supporting sustainable energy infrastructure, improving access to medical resources and providing educational assistance to financially disadvantaged students.
₹63.23 Lakh for Compressed Biogas Project in Balrampur
Indian Bank has committed ₹63.23 lakh towards a compressed biogas (CBG) plant in Tulsipur, located in Balrampur district. The project forms part of the bank’s CSR support for initiatives with an environmental and clean energy focus.
Compressed biogas is produced by processing biodegradable organic materials and can be used as an alternative fuel. Projects of this nature can support waste utilisation and contribute to the development of alternative energy infrastructure.
The bank’s contribution is intended to support the development of the facility, although further details about its capacity, implementation schedule and expected output were not specified in the announcement.
KGMU Receives Support for Education and Healthcare
At King George’s Medical University, Indian Bank has extended financial assistance towards two initiatives covering education and healthcare infrastructure.
The bank has committed ₹49.50 lakh to provide educational support to financially disadvantaged students. The assistance is intended to help students facing financial constraints continue their education.
In addition, the bank has allocated ₹19 lakh, plus applicable taxes, for the procurement of 4,000 quadruple blood bags. These supplies are intended to support the university’s blood-related medical services and healthcare requirements.
Together, the two commitments represent ₹68.50 lakh before applicable taxes and form the healthcare and education component of the bank’s CSR assistance in the state.
Indian Bank Leadership Holds Meetings with UP Government
During his Lucknow visit, Binod Kumar met Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath to discuss the bank’s role in supporting Uttar Pradesh’s development priorities and expanding financial inclusion.
He also held meetings with Deputy Chief Ministers Brajesh Pathak and Keshav Prasad Maurya, Chief Secretary Shashi Prakash Goyal and Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Seth. The discussions covered the bank’s engagement with the state and its contribution through banking services, institutional partnerships and CSR initiatives.
Kumar was accompanied by Sudhir Kumar Gupta, Chief General Manager of Indian Bank’s Field General Manager’s Office in Lucknow.

As part of the visit, Kumar inaugurated Indian Bank’s newly established Vrindavan branch and the renovated premises of its Field General Manager’s Office in Lucknow.
He also participated in a leadership session at The Economic Times Vision Conclave, held under the theme Banking the Future: Digital, Inclusive and Intelligent Finance for Viksit Bharat 2047. The visit included an interaction with key customers at a meeting organised at Taj Palace, Lucknow.

He also took part in a cyclathon at Janeshwar Mishra Park as part of Vigilance Awareness Week 2026, which focused on promoting transparency, integrity and ethical conduct.
CSR Support Linked to Broader Development Priorities
Indian Bank’s ₹1.32 crore commitment brings together three areas of support: alternative energy infrastructure, educational assistance and healthcare resources. The compressed biogas project in Balrampur represents the environmental component, while the KGMU allocations address student support and medical supplies.
The bank’s engagements in Uttar Pradesh also included institutional meetings, branch expansion and interactions with customers and employees. These activities reflect its stated focus on strengthening its presence in the state through financial inclusion, partnerships and community-oriented initiatives.
The CSR commitments provide targeted support to projects in clean energy, education and healthcare, with implementation and outcomes expected to depend on the progress of the respective initiatives.
