Gujarat has stepped up its push to become India’s leading green hydrogen hub, inviting industries to invest in the state by highlighting its dedicated Green Hydrogen Policy, renewable energy ecosystem, and strong industrial infrastructure.
Speaking at the 2nd Bharat Green Hydrogen Summit 2026 in New Delhi, Gujarat’s Minister for Energy and Petrochemicals Rushikesh Patel said the state has created a comprehensive policy framework to support industries involved in renewable energy, green hydrogen production, and clean technology manufacturing.
‘Come to Gujarat,’ Minister Tells Investors
Addressing potential investors, Patel encouraged businesses to establish manufacturing and processing facilities in Gujarat, saying the state offers an industry-friendly regulatory environment backed by supportive government policies.
“We have an industrial policy, a Green Hydrogen Policy, and a comprehensive Renewable Energy (RE) Policy. Industries looking to invest in the clean energy sector will find Gujarat an ideal destination,” he said.
The minister added that Gujarat aims to position itself as India’s preferred investment destination for companies working across the green hydrogen value chain.
Natural Advantages Strengthen Gujarat’s Position
Patel highlighted Gujarat’s geographical strengths, which make it well-suited for large-scale green hydrogen production.
According to him, the state benefits from:
- A long coastline with port connectivity
- Abundant solar radiation
- Strong renewable energy infrastructure
- Established industrial ecosystem
- Easy access to export markets
These advantages make Gujarat an attractive location for producing, storing, transporting, and exporting green hydrogen and its derivatives.
Beyond Renewable Energy
The minister said Gujarat is now moving beyond conventional renewable energy by focusing on green hydrogen, which is expected to play a crucial role in decarbonising industries and achieving India’s long-term climate goals.
He noted that sectors heavily dependent on conventional fuels are gradually transitioning toward cleaner alternatives, with green hydrogen emerging as a key future energy source.
The state is also working to encourage industries to maximise the use of green hydrogen across manufacturing, transportation, and industrial processes.
Electrolyser Manufacturing Gains Momentum
Highlighting domestic manufacturing progress, Patel pointed to the recent development of a 4 MW electrolyser by Larsen & Toubro (L&T) at its Hazira facility in Gujarat.
Electrolysers are among the most critical components required for producing green hydrogen by splitting water using renewable electricity.
The minister described domestic electrolyser manufacturing as a major milestone that could significantly accelerate India’s green hydrogen ambitions by reducing import dependence and strengthening local manufacturing capabilities.
Supporting India’s Clean Energy Vision
India has identified green hydrogen as a key pillar of its energy transition strategy under the National Green Hydrogen Mission, aiming to become a global producer and exporter of the clean fuel.
With dedicated policies, abundant renewable energy resources, expanding manufacturing capacity, and strong industrial infrastructure, Gujarat is positioning itself at the forefront of this emerging sector.
The state government believes its integrated policy ecosystem can help attract significant domestic and global investments while contributing to India’s goal of becoming a global leader in green hydrogen and clean energy technologies.
