Satna, MP, 23 June: Gruner Renewable Energy, the flagship company of the Gruner Group, has achieved a major milestone in India’s clean energy sector by recording 23.5 tonnes per day (TPD) of Compressed BioGas (CBG) production at its Satna facility—the highest single-day output ever achieved by a CBG plant in Asia.
The plant is currently operating at 120% of its designed capacity, significantly outperforming industry averages, where many facilities run at only 40–50% utilization. The achievement places the Satna facility among the world’s best-performing bioenergy assets and makes it one of the highest-performing CBG plants globally.
The record highlights India’s growing capability to develop and operate world-class bioenergy infrastructure while converting agricultural and organic waste into clean, renewable fuel.
A key factor behind the plant’s performance is Gruner’s access to international expertise through Gruner New Inergie Deutschland GmbH, the company’s technical excellence centre in Germany. The centre brings over 25 years of experience and has contributed to more than 500 bioenergy and biogas projects worldwide.
The Satna plant converts agricultural residues, including paddy straw, into renewable fuel, helping reduce greenhouse gas emissions, improve waste management, generate additional income for farmers, and strengthen India’s energy security.
Commenting on the achievement, Utkarsh Gupta, Founder and CEO of Gruner Renewable Energy, said the milestone demonstrates India’s ability to build and operate globally competitive renewable energy infrastructure while transforming agricultural waste into economic and environmental value.
Mehmet Oenal, COO of Gruner New Inergie Deutschland GmbH, described the achievement as a landmark moment for India’s bioenergy sector, showcasing the country’s expertise and potential in renewable energy development.
The accomplishment comes as India accelerates its clean energy transition through initiatives such as the SATAT Programme and the National Bioenergy Programme.
With an order book exceeding ₹4,500 crore and more than 72 CBG projects under execution across multiple states, Gruner Renewable Energy continues to expand its role in building India’s bioenergy ecosystem. The company says its projects are creating rural employment, supporting farmers, promoting circular economy practices, and contributing to the country’s long-term sustainability and net-zero goals.
