A large-scale Green Energy Rally was organised in Jind, Haryana, to promote sustainable mobility and environmental awareness as Prime Minister Narendra Modi flagged off India’s first hydrogen-powered train and inaugurated nine major development projects worth ₹14,721 crore in the state.
The rally witnessed enthusiastic participation from citizens, representatives of social organisations and government officials, who travelled using electric vehicles (EVs) and other green energy-powered modes of transport. The initiative aimed to encourage cleaner mobility solutions while reinforcing the importance of environmental conservation and reducing dependence on fossil fuels.
Addressing the gathering, Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini welcomed Prime Minister Modi and described him as the architect of a Viksit Bharat, crediting his leadership for driving India’s transformation across infrastructure, transportation, digital governance, healthcare, education and economic development over the past twelve years.
The Chief Minister expressed gratitude for the launch of nine development projects worth over ₹14,721 crore, stating that the initiatives would provide fresh momentum to Haryana’s economic growth and infrastructure development. He said the projects represent another milestone in the state’s journey towards becoming a major industrial and investment destination.
A key highlight of the event was the launch of India’s first hydrogen-powered train, which will operate on the 89-kilometre Jind-Sonipat route under Northern Railway. The hydrogen fuel cell-powered train is expected to promote cleaner transportation by producing electricity through hydrogen fuel cells, emitting only water vapour as a by-product.
Chief Minister Saini described the launch as a historic achievement for both Haryana and the nation, saying it reflects India’s growing commitment to green energy, clean transportation and the vision of an Atmanirbhar Bharat. He noted that the project positions India among a select group of countries adopting hydrogen-powered railway technology.
Highlighting the Centre’s contribution to Haryana’s development, Saini stated that the state has received more than ₹7 lakh crore under various Central Government schemes over the past twelve years. According to him, this support has accelerated the expansion of highways, railway infrastructure, metro connectivity, healthcare facilities and other public infrastructure across the state.
The Chief Minister also outlined Haryana’s recent progress in education, healthcare, agriculture and irrigation. He said the state has achieved its target of establishing one college every 20 kilometres, while PM SHRI Schools and Sanskriti Model Schools are being developed every 10 kilometres. Haryana currently has 17 medical colleges, with 11 established during the past twelve years and three more under construction.
In the agriculture sector, he highlighted that Haryana has become the first state in India to procure all 24 crops at the Minimum Support Price (MSP), while also undertaking projects to strengthen ageing canal infrastructure and restore hundreds of water reservoirs to improve irrigation.
The Chief Minister further stated that the public gathering itself reflected the government’s environmental commitment, with a majority of participants travelling in petrol- and diesel-free vehicles, transforming the event into a practical demonstration of sustainable mobility.
The Green Energy Rally and the launch of India’s first hydrogen-powered train underscore the country’s growing focus on renewable energy, clean transportation and sustainable infrastructure as part of its long-term vision for Viksit Bharat 2047.
