New Delhi, May 20:  Girganga Parivar Trust, widely respected for its water conservation and environmental initiatives in Saurashtra, has been awarded the prestigious Global CSR & ESG Awards 2025, held recently in New Delhi. The award recognises outstanding global efforts in corporate social responsibility (CSR) and environmental, social, and governance (ESG) practices.

The recognition puts India in the global spotlight, as Girganga Parivar Trust joins the ranks of leading international organisations committed to community development and environmental sustainability.

Trust President Mr. Dilip Sakhiya, popularly known as the “Waterman of India”, dedicated the award to the people of Saurashtra, applauding the collective efforts of farmers, rural communities, and youth in making water conservation a success.
“This award belongs to every individual who has been part of this journey. Their dedication has made this possible,” he said.

For years, the Girganga Parivar Trust has been tackling the region’s persistent water scarcity. Through active community participation, the Trust has constructed over 275 check dams and 1,200+ recharge bores, significantly improving groundwater levels and water availability for agriculture and daily use.

One of the Trust’s standout initiatives is its Public-Private-Trust (PPT) Model, where companies provide CSR-funded machinery such as JCBs and earthmovers, while local communities manage fuel and maintenance. This collaborative model ensures cost-effective and inclusive development, empowering everyone to contribute to water conservation.

In a major milestone, the Trust recently signed an MoU with the Ministry of Water, Government of India, making it the only Indian NGO officially partnered with the Ministry on large-scale water conservation efforts. This strategic partnership focuses on building rainwater harvesting systems, recharge bores, and check dams in drought-prone regions like Gujarat, helping farmers become self-sufficient and improving regional water management.

Receiving the Global CSR & ESG Award underscores the power of collective action and grassroots leadership. The Trust’s success demonstrates how partnerships between communities, businesses, and government bodies can lead to meaningful environmental change.

Looking ahead, Girganga Parivar Trust has set an ambitious goal to build 11,111 check dams in the region. Their guiding slogan – “Machine Aapki, Mehnat Hamari, Jal Sanrakshan Sabka!” (Your Machine, Our Efforts, Water Conservation for All) – encapsulates their inclusive and determined approach.

This global honour has only strengthened the Trust’s resolve to continue its mission. It stands as a testament to the impact of sincere, community-driven efforts and serves as an inspiring model for environmental initiatives worldwide.
