Mumbai Aprail 8: In a significant step toward supporting underprivileged students, Mumbai’s first air-conditioned study center was inaugurated on Monday at Captain Prakash Pethe Marg, near the Budhwar Park main signal in Colaba.
The center, a first-of-its-kind initiative in the city, is a collaboration between the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) and Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) partners. It offers a comfortable learning space for around 30 students from low-income families, equipped with seating arrangements and drinking water facilities. The center will remain open from 11:00 AM to 6:30 PM daily.
This initiative is aimed at students from nearby slum areas including Shiv Shakti Nagar, Mahatma Jyotiba Phule Nagar, Garib Janata Nagar, and Steel Godown. It provides an environment conducive to studying—especially for those preparing for competitive exams like civil services and state service commissions.
Former Colaba BJP corporator Makarand Narwekar, present at the inauguration, emphasized the project’s long-term vision: “We plan to set up more such centers. These students come from humble backgrounds but have big dreams. This facility will go a long way in helping them pursue those dreams.”
