Being Human Foundation, the charitable organisation backed by Bollywood actor Salman Khan, has launched a multi-phase humanitarian relief campaign to support communities affected by the recent floods in Assam.
The initiative, being carried out in collaboration with Being Human’s Assam fan club, aims to provide both immediate relief and long-term rehabilitation assistance to families impacted by the devastating floods.
Immediate Relief Underway
The first phase of the campaign has already begun with the distribution of ready-to-eat food packets and other essential supplies to flood-affected residents.
The relief drive seeks to address the urgent needs of families displaced by the floods and those facing shortages of food and basic necessities in affected districts.
Essential Supplies to Reach Affected Families
In addition to food assistance, the campaign will distribute a range of essential daily-use items, including:
- Medicines
- Drinking water
- Sanitary pads
- Mosquito repellents
- Ration kits
These supplies are intended to support people staying in relief camps and communities where access to basic services has been disrupted due to flooding.
Focus on Long-Term Rehabilitation
Beyond emergency relief, Being Human has outlined plans for subsequent phases of the campaign that will focus on community rehabilitation.
The foundation plans to support the rebuilding of schools and hospitals damaged during the floods, helping restore essential public infrastructure in affected areas.
The phased approach reflects an effort to address both immediate humanitarian requirements and longer-term recovery needs.
Assam Continues Recovery Efforts
Assam experienced severe flooding following heavy monsoon rainfall and upstream cloudbursts, with the situation worsening around July 18–19.
The floods affected multiple districts, particularly in Upper Assam, causing extensive damage to homes, roads and public infrastructure while displacing thousands of residents.
According to official updates, the flood situation had begun improving by July 28, with the number of affected people declining to around 4.45 lakh. However, the disaster claimed 68 lives, and relief and restoration efforts continue across several districts.
Authorities are currently operating around 90 relief camps and 94 relief distribution centres, while assessment teams continue evaluating the extent of damage and rehabilitation requirements.
Supporting Community Recovery
The Being Human initiative adds to the ongoing relief efforts by government agencies, local organisations and volunteers working to assist flood-affected communities.
By combining emergency aid with long-term rehabilitation support, the campaign aims to contribute to the recovery of families and public institutions affected by one of the state’s most challenging flood seasons.
