Axis Energy has partnered with Lumara, a renewable energy platform launched by Brookfield in India, to develop a 400-MW utility-scale solar power project at Nandipadu village in Nandyal district, Andhra Pradesh, strengthening the region’s role in the state’s growing renewable energy landscape.
Under the partnership, Axis Energy will undertake the engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) work for the project. The large-scale solar installation is expected to create employment opportunities for local communities during both the construction and operational phases, while contributing additional renewable power to the regional electricity network.
A key component of the project will be the development of a 400-kV pooling substation along with a 400-kV transmission line. The transmission infrastructure will connect the solar project to the Kurnool-III CTUIL substation, enabling the generated electricity to be evacuated efficiently and integrated into the national power grid.
The companies are targeting commissioning in 2027, marking another addition to India’s expanding pipeline of utility-scale renewable energy projects.
The project is also significant for Andhra Pradesh, which has been seeking to accelerate renewable energy development and expand its clean-power infrastructure. Large solar projects such as this can support the state’s growing electricity requirements while contributing to India’s broader renewable-energy and decarbonisation objectives.
Kiran Kumar Reddy, Joint Managing Director of Axis Energy, said the partnership brings together Lumara’s capabilities and Axis Energy’s experience in renewable energy and EPC execution, creating a platform to deliver the project at scale.
With a planned capacity of 400 MW, the Nandyal project will add to the country’s expanding solar generation base while requiring associated transmission infrastructure to ensure that renewable power can reach the wider grid. The combination of generation, grid connectivity and local employment also highlights the broader economic impact of renewable-energy investments beyond electricity production.
