New Delhi, August 6: Bollywood actor Salman Khan has partnered with humanitarian NGO Global Sikhs to support flood-affected families in Assam by launching the ‘AASHIYANA – Hope Begins with a Safe Shelter’ campaign.
As part of the second phase of rehabilitation efforts, the initiative focuses on constructing semi-permanent shelters for families who lost their homes during the devastating floods. The campaign aims to provide safe housing to thousands of people who are currently living in the open or in temporary roadside shelters amid continuing rainfall.
Announcing the initiative on social media, Global Sikhs said the organisation, in collaboration with Salman Khan, has begun building shelters to help families rebuild their lives with dignity and security.
The actor has been actively supporting relief efforts in Assam. Earlier, Salman Khan reportedly launched a multi-phase relief campaign through the Being Human Foundation and his fan clubs, distributing food packets, medicines and other essential supplies across flood-affected districts, including Sivasagar.
Assam continues to battle severe flooding, with Sivasagar, Golaghat, Jorhat, Nagaon and Charaideo among the worst-hit districts. According to official reports, floods have affected 379 villages across five districts, impacting more than 1.92 lakh people. The death toll has also risen to 80.
Several other celebrities have extended support to the relief efforts. Kartik Aaryan reportedly donated ₹1 crore to the Assam Chief Minister’s Relief Fund, while Alia Bhatt shared verified donation links to encourage public contributions. Actors Rohit Shetty, Bhumi Pednekar, Ayushmann Khurrana and others have also expressed solidarity with flood-affected communities.
