In a proactive disaster preparedness initiative, the district administration has announced plans to distribute relief kits to families living in flood-prone areas before the onset of floods. The initiative will be implemented using Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) funds, ensuring vulnerable households receive essential supplies in advance rather than waiting for post-disaster relief.
According to the administration, nearly 200 villages in the district are affected by floods every year. In the first phase, relief kits will be provided to needy families identified in these vulnerable villages. Concerned departments have been directed to prepare beneficiary lists and ensure timely distribution before the flood season.
Relief Kits to Include Essential Supplies
The pre-flood relief kits will contain a range of emergency essentials, including umbrellas, torches, tarpaulins, blankets, mosquito nets, dry ration, candles, batteries, ropes, first-aid kits and hygiene materials. The administration also plans to make arrangements for safe drinking water and other emergency resources based on local requirements.
Focus on Preparedness Rather Than Response
Additional District Magistrate Jyoti Rai said the administration’s objective is to ensure that relief materials reach beneficiaries before flooding begins, enabling families to manage the initial phase of a disaster without facing shortages of essential supplies.
She added that beneficiary identification and distribution will be carried out through a transparent process to ensure that assistance reaches those most in need.
Strengthening Disaster Resilience Through CSR
The initiative reflects the growing role of CSR funding in supporting disaster preparedness and community resilience. By shifting the focus from post-disaster relief to pre-disaster preparedness, the administration aims to reduce hardship for flood-affected communities while improving emergency response and ensuring quicker recovery during the monsoon season.
