Reliance Foundation has launched a comprehensive relief and recovery initiative to support 10,000 flood-affected families in Assam following severe flooding that has devastated parts of the state’s Upper Assam region.
The initiative, being implemented in consultation with government authorities, focuses on the worst-affected districts of Sivasagar and Charaideo, where widespread flooding has disrupted livelihoods, damaged infrastructure and increased public health risks.
Supporting Flood-Affected Communities
Triggered by intense rainfall and flash floods, the disaster has affected more than 500,000 people across the two districts, causing significant damage to homes, essential services, agriculture and livestock.
Following a rapid on-ground needs assessment conducted by its disaster management team, Reliance Foundation has rolled out a multi-sector relief programme in coordination with district administrations, local authorities and community organisations.
Public Health and Safe Water
As part of its public health response, Reliance Foundation has begun cleaning and restoring Community Health Centres to help resume essential healthcare services.
The organisation is also providing safe drinking water, along with hygiene and sanitation supplies, to displaced and affected families to reduce the risk of disease outbreaks.
Food and Nutrition Assistance
To address immediate food security concerns, Reliance Foundation has established community kitchens to provide cooked meals to families without access to food supplies.
In addition, dry ration kits are being distributed to ensure continued nutritional support for affected households during the recovery period.
Emergency Shelter Support
The Foundation is supplying emergency shelter kits containing tarpaulins, ground sheets, mosquito nets, ropes and bedding to help displaced families secure temporary accommodation.
These supplies are intended to improve living conditions while rehabilitation efforts continue in flood-hit areas.
Livestock Protection Measures
Recognising the impact of floods on livestock-dependent communities, a 39-member team from Vantara has been deployed to provide veterinary care, livestock protection and support for other affected animals.
Reliance Foundation will also provide feed support for around 4,000 livestock, helping farmers protect their animals during the recovery phase.
Coordinated Relief Efforts
Reliance Foundation said its teams are working closely with district administrations, government departments, local institutions and partner organisations to ensure timely delivery of relief and recovery assistance to communities most affected by the floods.
The initiative reflects the Foundation’s continued commitment to supporting disaster-affected communities through coordinated humanitarian assistance and long-term recovery efforts.
