Andhra Pradesh has recorded a major leap in renewable energy development by adding 3,865.63 MW of renewable energy capacity during 2025-26, nearly four times higher than the 1,085.15 MW added in the previous financial year, according to data tabled by the Union Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) in the Lok Sabha.
The sharp increase highlights the state’s growing role in India’s clean energy transition and reflects stronger investor confidence, faster project execution and supportive government policies.
Renewable Energy Capacity Sees Rapid Growth
The data, presented in Parliament in response to an Unstarred Question by MP Dr. M.K. Vishnu Prasad, shows Andhra Pradesh has emerged as one of India’s fastest-growing renewable energy destinations.
Renewable energy additions remained relatively low between 2021-22 and 2023-24, with the state adding:
- 125.42 MW in 2021-22
- 148.62 MW in 2022-23
- 59.15 MW in 2023-24
The momentum picked up significantly in 2024-25, when capacity additions crossed 1 GW, before surging to nearly 3.9 GW during 2025-26.
Investor-Friendly Policies Drive Expansion
The state government attributed the strong growth to a renewed focus on clean energy through:
- Faster project approvals
- Investor-friendly policies
- Improved implementation mechanisms
- Large-scale investments in renewable energy infrastructure
These measures have helped position Andhra Pradesh as a preferred destination for renewable energy investments while accelerating project execution across the state.
Supporting India’s Clean Energy Goals
The Union Government informed Parliament that India has already achieved 50% of its installed electricity capacity from non-fossil fuel sources, reaching the milestone five years ahead of the 2030 target.
The country also remains on track to achieve 500 GW of installed non-fossil fuel-based electricity capacity by 2030, with states like Andhra Pradesh playing a key role in meeting this national objective.
₹10 Lakh Crore Clean Energy Vision
Earlier this year, the Andhra Pradesh government announced plans to accelerate the implementation of its Integrated Clean Energy Policy, which aims to attract ₹10 lakh crore in investments by 2029.
The policy focuses on developing:
- Renewable energy projects
- Energy storage systems
- Green hydrogen
- Power transmission infrastructure
- Clean energy manufacturing ecosystems
Officials believe these investments will generate employment, strengthen industrial growth and further establish Andhra Pradesh as a leading clean energy hub in India.
