July 1: Schneider Electric has announced an agreement to acquire Cognite Holding, a leading provider of industrial AI software and data solutions, in an all-cash deal valued at $3.1 billion. The acquisition marks one of the company’s biggest investments in industrial artificial intelligence as it seeks to strengthen its digital transformation capabilities.
Under the agreement, Cognite will become part of AVEVA, Schneider Electric’s industrial software business. The French multinational said the transaction is expected to be completed over the coming quarters, subject to customary regulatory approvals and closing conditions.
Founded to help industrial companies unlock value from operational data, Cognite develops AI-powered software that enables businesses to connect, analyse and optimise data from manufacturing plants, energy facilities and other industrial assets. Its platform is widely used to improve operational efficiency, predictive maintenance, asset performance and decision-making across industries.
Schneider Electric said integrating Cognite’s AI capabilities with AVEVA’s industrial software portfolio will enhance its ability to provide advanced digital solutions for customers pursuing smart manufacturing, industrial automation and digital transformation initiatives. The acquisition also strengthens the company’s strategy of combining artificial intelligence, industrial data and software to improve productivity and sustainability.
According to the company, Cognite generated more than $170 million in revenue during 2025 and employs approximately 800 people worldwide. Its expertise in industrial AI and data management is expected to complement Schneider Electric’s existing portfolio while expanding the range of AI-powered services available to industrial customers globally.
The acquisition reflects the growing demand for AI-driven industrial software as manufacturers, utilities and energy companies increasingly invest in digital technologies to optimise operations, reduce costs and improve efficiency. By bringing Cognite into the AVEVA ecosystem, Schneider Electric aims to accelerate innovation and strengthen its position in the rapidly expanding industrial AI market.
