Pune, March 24 : Bollywood star Aamir Khan on Sunday emphasized the significance of sustainable farming and its benefits for farmers across Maharashtra. He revealed that Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis had been urging him for years to expand his efforts statewide, but due to the vast size of Maharashtra, he had been unable to do so.

Speaking at a Paani Foundation event, Khan stated, “For the past nine years, Devendra ji has encouraged us to work across Maharashtra, and we have always shared this vision. However, Maharashtra is an enormous state, even larger than Germany, making it a significant responsibility. Now, we feel that we might finally be able to take on this challenge.” He further announced that starting next year, “we will expand this initiative across Maharashtra,” adding that the government will introduce supportive policies to aid the process.

Khan attended the event alongside his ex-wife, filmmaker Kiran Rao. During the program, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis underscored the importance of water conservation in villages to ensure sustainable agriculture in the state. “To make farming viable in Maharashtra, our villages need to become water-rich, implement water accounting and budgeting, and actively involve the community,” Fadnavis said. He emphasized that without such measures, droughts would continue to impact the state. He also called for group farming to become a widespread movement and assured government support for these efforts.

On the acting front, Aamir Khan is gearing up for his upcoming film Sitaare Zameen Par, scheduled for a Christmas release this year. “My next film as a lead actor is Sitaare Zameen Par, and we are aiming for a Christmas release. It’s an entertaining film, and I really like the story. Filming is already underway,” he shared.

Additionally, Khan has taken on the role of producer for Lahore 1947, a project under Aamir Khan Productions, directed by acclaimed filmmaker Rajkumar Santoshi. The film features Sunny Deol and Preity G Zinta in key roles, with Shabana Azmi and Ali Fazal also joining the cast.
