5th National Water Awards

New Delhi : The Department of Water Resources, River Development, and Ganga Rejuvenation (DoWR, RD & GR) under the Ministry of Jal Shakti has announced the winners for the 5th National Water Awards, 2023. A total of 38 winners, including joint winners, have been recognized across nine categories. These categories include Best State, Best District, Best Village Panchayat, Best Urban Local Body, Best School or College, Best Industry, Best Water User Association, Best Institution (other than school or college), and Best Civil Society. In the Best State category, Odisha has claimed the first prize, while Uttar Pradesh secured second place. Gujarat and Puducherry shared the third position. The winners will receive a citation, a trophy, and, in some categories, a cash prize as part of their recognition for outstanding contributions to water management.

The award distribution ceremony for the 5th National Water Awards, 2023, will be held on 22nd October 2024 at Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi. Hon’ble President of India, Smt. Droupadi Murmu, will grace the event as the Chief Guest. Hon’ble Ministers of State for Jal Shakti, Shri Raj Bhushan Chaudhary and Shri V Somanna, along with other senior officials, will also attend the event.

Launched in 2018, the National Water Awards aim to promote awareness about water conservation and motivate individuals and organizations to adopt best practices for water management. The 5th edition saw 686 applications, which were evaluated by a jury and ground-truthed by the Central Water Commission and Central Ground Water Board. These awards highlight efforts towards realizing the government’s vision of a ‘Jal Samridh Bharat.’
