Chennai : The Shiv Nadar Foundation has recently inaugurated the Shiv Nadar School of Law at the Shiv Nadar University campus in Chennai, offering a five-year BA LLB program for aspiring law students.
The inauguration ceremony was graced by Supreme Court Justice MM Sundresh as the chief guest, along with notable attendees such as Prof. (Dr.) S.K. Bhattacharyya, Vice Chancellor of Shiv Nadar University; Shikhar Malhotra, Trustee of Shiv Nadar Foundation; Prof. (Dr.) Shiv Swaminathan, Dean of Shiv Nadar School of Law; and Prof. (Dr.) Vinay Sitapati, Associate Dean of the law school. The inaugural batch has already welcomed 45 students, with plans for a larger cohort of 120 students next year. The institution also offers scholarships, including full-tuition waivers.
During the event, Justice Sundresh remarked on the scarcity of quality legal education in India, despite the abundance of law colleges, and emphasized the need for change. He noted that the legal profession plays a crucial role in addressing societal issues, often more than other fields. “Those in the legal profession must never forget the core principle: they exist to serve society and the litigants,” he stated.
Prof. Sriman Kumar Bhattacharyya expressed his enthusiasm for introducing the Shiv Nadar School of Law to Chennai, aiming to cultivate aspiring legal students into world-class lawyers. He highlighted that the law school merges a robust liberal arts program with legal studies, with a curriculum designed based on global best practices.
