New Delhi, Jan 18 : The government has simplified the process of benefiting from the PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana by introducing two new payment models, enabling residents to install solar panels on their rooftops without incurring any upfront costs.

Launched in February 2024

The scheme, launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in February 2024, aims to provide 300 units of free electricity to households and subsidies of up to ₹78,000 for installing solar rooftops. With the recent updates, the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy has made it more accessible for beneficiaries to adopt solar energy without financial barriers.

New Payment Models for Solar Panels

1. RESCO Model :
Under this model, a third-party organization installs solar panels on rooftops at no cost to the homeowner. Users only pay for the electricity consumed via the solar panels.

2. ULA (Utility-led Aggregation) Model :
In this model, government-nominated entities or DISCOMs handle the installation, again at no cost to the homeowner.

These models aim to eliminate the financial burden associated with solar installations, ensuring more widespread adoption.

Additional Features

– A Payment Security Mechanism (PSM) fund of ₹100 crore has been established to de-risk investments in grid-connected rooftop solar projects for residential areas.
– The scheme ensures transparency through the National Portal and guarantees timely subsidy disbursal directly to beneficiaries’ bank accounts.

Subsidy Details

Beneficiaries can receive:
– ₹30,000 for panels up to 2 kW.
– ₹48,000 for 3 kW panels.
– ₹78,000 for installations exceeding 3 kW.

How to Register

Interested individuals can register online via the official portal [pmsuryaghar.gov.in](https://pmsuryaghar.gov.in) or offline by visiting the nearest post office.
