New Delhi, Jan 18 : Prime Minister Narendra Modi will virtually preside over the distribution of 6.5 million property cards under the SVAMITVA scheme on Saturday, benefiting over 50,000 villages across 12 states and Union territories, officials from the Ministry of Panchayati Raj (MoPR) announced.
As part of the event, the prime minister will interact with selected beneficiaries of the SVAMITVA scheme, which aims to provide rural property owners with formal property ownership records to enhance access to institutional credit.
Launched in 2020 by PM Modi, the scheme is a significant step toward fostering economic growth in rural India. As of January 16, over 90% of the targeted drone mapping has been completed, covering approximately 317,000 of the 346,000 target villages.
“This longstanding issue of property rights required immediate attention to drive economic progress. To date, 67,000 square kilometers have been surveyed, representing an economic value of ₹132 lakh crore,” Vivek Bharadwaj, Secretary of the Ministry of Panchayati Raj, stated on Friday.
The event will also feature Union Panchayati Raj Minister Rajiv Ranjan Singh, Minister of State SP Baghel, Secretary Vivek Bharadwaj, and several chief ministers, Union ministers, and panchayat representatives.
In addition to marking a significant milestone—over 22.4 million property cards prepared and distributed—Saturday’s event will include physical distribution ceremonies in over 230 districts across 10 states (Chhattisgarh, Gujarat, Himachal Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Mizoram, Odisha, Punjab, Rajasthan, and Uttar Pradesh) and two Union territories (Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh).
The SVAMITVA initiative continues to lay the foundation for transforming rural India by empowering property owners, promoting transparency, and facilitating economic growth.
