Jamnagar, Jan 3 : Nita Ambani, founder and chairperson of the Reliance Foundation, highlighted the profound emotional connection between the Ambani family and Jamnagar during an event marking the 25th anniversary of the iconic Jamnagar Refinery. Describing the city as the “soul of Reliance,” she underscored its significance in the family’s journey and legacy.
“Jamnagar is not just a place. It is the soul of Reliance, holding a very deep and dear place in our hearts,” Nita Ambani said, reflecting on the personal and familial ties to the region.
She elaborated on Jamnagar’s importance to the family, tracing its connection to key figures like Kokilaben Ambani, Dhirubhai Ambani, Mukesh Ambani, and the younger generation. For Kokilaben, it is her Janmabhoomi—the land of her birth, deeply rooted in her values and blessings. Nita expressed gratitude to Kokilaben, saying, “Thank you, Mummy, for everything you do for us.”
Nita Ambani described Jamnagar as Dhirubhai Ambani’s Karmabhoomi —the land of his vision and hard work. She noted, “Yesterday was Papa’s 92nd birthday, and I am sure he is blessing all of us here in Jamnagar.”
Mukesh Ambani’s role in transforming Dhirubhai’s dream into reality was acknowledged, with Nita calling Jamnagar his *Shraddha Bhoomi*—a place of devotion and respect. The younger Ambanis, particularly Anant Ambani, were also recognized for their commitment to the city, with Nita referring to Jamnagar as his *Sewa Bhoomi*—symbolizing service and compassion.
Jamnagar’s Role in Reliance’s Legacy
The event celebrated not only the refinery’s milestone but also the pivotal role Jamnagar has played in Reliance’s success story. Launched on December 28, 1999, the Jamnagar Refinery marked its 25th anniversary as the world’s largest refining hub—an engineering marvel and a source of national pride.
Against all odds, Dhirubhai Ambani spearheaded the construction of the refinery in a record 33 months, despite facing challenges such as a lack of infrastructure and a severe cyclone. Critics had warned against building the plant in a desert-like region with no roads, electricity, or drinking water. However, Dhirubhai’s vision transformed Jamnagar into a global refining hub.
Today, the complex is home to some of the world’s largest units, including the Fluidised Catalytic Cracker (FCC), Coker, Alkylation, Paraxylene, Polypropylene, Refinery Off-Gas Cracker (ROGC), and Petcoke gasification plants.
The event not only celebrated the refinery’s 25-year journey but also underscored the enduring bond between Jamnagar and the Ambani family, marking it as a cornerstone of Reliance’s legacy.
