Jammu, March 24: Chief Minister Omar Abdullah announced on Monday that the National Hydroelectric Power Corporation (NHPC) has set aside ₹28.67 crore for corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiatives in Jammu and Kashmir for the 2024-25 financial year.
“Of the total ₹167.93 crore earmarked for CSR activities across India, ₹28.67 crore has been allocated for J&K,” Abdullah stated while responding to a query from PDP member Waheed Ur Rehman Para in the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly.
The NHPC’s CSR initiatives in the region focus on key areas such as healthcare, sanitation, education, skill development, rural development, sports, and disaster management, the chief minister informed the House.
Addressing a supplementary question, Abdullah underscored the importance of involving local representatives in CSR planning.
“We will recommend to NHPC that MLAs be consulted while identifying and implementing CSR projects to ensure they align with community needs,” he stated.
He further emphasized that CSR funds should be utilized in close coordination with local communities, ensuring maximum benefit for the people.
“As far as I know, NHPC already engages with local stakeholders before finalizing CSR projects to ensure the most effective use of these funds,” he added
