Mumbai, Jan 17 : In a world increasingly threatened by urbanization and environmental challenges, the delicate flutter of butterfly wings serves as a powerful symbol of hope and ecological balance. To spotlight their significance and inspire collective action, the Mumbai Butterfly Meet – Edition 2.0 brought together conservationists, citizens, and city administrators in a vibrant celebration of biodiversity.

Organized by the Vivant Untamed Earth Foundation in collaboration with the M (West) Ward of the BMC, the two-day event took place at N.G. Acharya Diamond Garden and Alamu Hall in Chembur. Bhushan Gagrani, Municipal Commissioner, BMC, inaugurated the event alongside Deputy Commissioner Vishvas Mote. The meet emphasized the need for united efforts to preserve urban habitats and protect butterfly populations.

“Butterflies are storytellers of nature, reflecting the health of our environment. This initiative highlights Mumbai’s dedication to protecting its biodiversity,” said Bhushan Gagrani.

Deputy Commissioner Vishvas Mote echoed this sentiment, adding, “Every butterfly represents resilience and renewal. By fostering sustainable urban spaces, we ensure a healthier, greener future for generations to come.”

The event opened with an exhibition featuring striking images of butterflies, showcasing their ethereal beauty. Children participated in creative activities, such as origami demonstrations by Origami Mitra and a butterfly-themed quiz, sparking an early interest in conservation. Experts and citizen scientists led lectures and panel discussions focused on sustainable urban solutions and the future of butterfly preservation.

Dr. Sanjeev Shevade, Co-Founder of Vivant Untamed Earth Foundation and practicing orthodontist, remarked, “Butterflies symbolize transformation and resilience. Protecting them safeguards our planet’s future.”

As the event concluded, participants left inspired to contribute to conservation efforts. The Vivant Untamed Earth Foundation announced plans to expand its awareness programs and collaborate with communities and the BMC to create butterfly-friendly environments across the city.

The Mumbai Butterfly Meet – Edition 2.0 was a powerful reminder that small actions can lead to transformative change. To save a butterfly is to save a piece of life’s delicate story—a message that resonated deeply with all who attended, leaving a legacy of hope and ecological harmony for the future.
