Sydney, Jan 1 : Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG) CEO Kerrie Mather announced a transformative step by the McGrath Foundation, starting in 2025, to provide care for all cancer patients, regardless of cancer type. The announcement coincided with the fifth and final Test at Sydney, marking Jane McGrath Day. Known for its iconic sea of pink on Day 3, the event raises millions for cancer support and awareness in Australia, according to cricket.com.au.
“We are now expanding our purpose to go beyond breast cancer and provide care to anyone diagnosed with cancer. This is a significant moment as many people lack the support they need. Over the past 20 years, the McGrath Foundation has supported 150,000 individuals with breast cancer and their families,” Mather stated during a press conference. She emphasized the foundation’s commitment to equity in cancer care, ensuring that every patient has access to a McGrath Cancer Care Nurse.
Reflecting on the milestone, Mather called it a pivotal day for the foundation and cancer care in Australia. She thanked supporters and highlighted the presence of the Wendt family, who traveled from Bundaberg to share their experiences with and without a cancer care nurse. The announcement was made alongside a thrilling day in cricket, with Australia securing a 2-1 series lead over India in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, setting the stage for the final Test at SCG starting January 3.
