Mangaluru : In a major contribution toward India’s goal of becoming TB-free by 2025, Mangalore Refinery and Petrochemicals Limited (MRPL) has provided Rs 1 crore to fund four CB-NAAT (Cartridge-Based Nucleic Acid Amplification Test) machines for the National TB Elimination Programme.

This funding, addressing a request by the Department of Health and Family Welfare, will place two machines each in Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts, enhancing local health infrastructure for quicker TB diagnosis.

As part of MRPL’s CSR initiative, Arogya Samrakshan, this support underscores its dedication to strengthening healthcare services and tackling pressing health issues within communities.

The CB-NAAT machines, renowned for their precision and WHO endorsement, bring a significant improvement to early TB detection, offering faster and more dependable results compared to conventional microscopy, which can delay diagnosis. In alignment with government guidelines calling for 100% sample testing through CB-NAAT, these machines will provide essential free testing services at government health facilities, addressing a critical healthcare need.

At the handover ceremony, B. Prashanth Baliga, MRPL’s General Manager (CSR), presented the Letter of Intent to Dr. H. R. Thimmaiah, District Health Officer of Dakshina Kannada, with MRPL officers Dr. Zahid Ali Khan, Dr. R. Aravindan, and Steevan Pinto in attendance.
