Alwar, March 31: With a significant portion of the global population dependent on agriculture, the sustained development of this sector is crucial. The Krishi Jyoti Project, a collaborative initiative between The Mosaic Company Foundation for Sustainable Food Systems and S M Sehgal Foundation, was launched in 2008 in two villages in Nuh district, Haryana. Over time, the project expanded to include water management and education, evolving into a comprehensive rural development initiative. To date, it has positively impacted 0.76 million people across 273 villages in seven states.

On March 31, 2025, a community event marked the inauguration of a check dam and the transformation of a school in Alwar, Rajasthan. The event was attended by distinguished leaders from The Mosaic Company, including Bruce Bodine, President and CEO; Jenny Wang, Executive Vice President – Commercial; Benjamin Pratt, Vice President – Public Affairs and President of The Mosaic Company Foundation for Sustainable Food Systems; Robin Edwin, Managing Director; and Dr. Shashikant Bhende, Country Agronomist, Mosaic India Pvt. Ltd. Representatives from S M Sehgal Foundation, including Ms. Anjali Makhija, Trustee and CEO, and Ms. Anjali Godyal, COO, were also present along with other team members.

The celebrations included the inauguration of a check dam at Nangla Chirawanda and Government Upper Primary School in Sotka, Khairthal-Tijara, Rajasthan, which had undergone a transformation in 2021. The check dam is designed to replenish the groundwater table, ensuring year-round water availability for irrigation. This structure directly benefits 1,110 people, addressing the declining groundwater levels that have significantly affected irrigation for pearl millet and mustard crops in the region.

The school has been revitalized into an engaging learning environment, offering a safe, clean, and inspiring space for its 181 students and 10 teachers. The achievement of this milestone was made possible through the active participation and support of the local community. The Village Development Committee (VDC) is responsible for ensuring the long-term sustainability and ownership of these initiatives, while the School Management Committee (SMC) oversees the school’s improvements. The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from teachers, students, parents, village council members (panchayat), and representatives of SMC and VDC, all expressing their gratitude for the improved school infrastructure and the watershed structure.

Benjamin Pratt reiterated The Mosaic Company Foundation for Sustainable Food Systems’ commitment to Krishi Jyoti, highlighting its alignment with The Mosaic Company’s mission to support global food production. Robin Edwin shared his appreciation for the project’s transformational impact on the community and its children.

Ms. Anjali Makhija, Trustee and CEO of S M Sehgal Foundation, expressed gratitude to The Mosaic Company Foundation for Sustainable Food Systems for their continued partnership and thanked the villagers for their active involvement. She acknowledged the significant integrated efforts undertaken in agriculture, water management, and education under the project.
