Gurugram: Globalization has brought significant changes to the world. The market has become overwhelmingly dominant, leading to the loss of many things. While people now have greater purchasing power, there’s also an intense competition to maximize profits. Unfortunately, the biggest victims of this trend are farmers, who receive the lowest prices for their products, with most profits going to middlemen.

Recognizing this issue, a couple decided to leave their lucrative corporate jobs and started a company called KisaanSay. This venture directly sources products from farmers, ensuring they receive fair prices and providing customers with high-quality, unadulterated goods. Today, we have the opportunity to interview the founders, the Puri couple.

Question: Nitin ji, what inspired you to leave a good corporate job to start your own venture?

Answer: My background is in the food industry, where I gained significant experience working for renowned FMCG companies. After a decade, I contemplated retirement but always wondered if I wanted to live a conventional retired life or create something meaningful. We decided it was time to step away from corporate life and contribute to society, recognizing the demand for quality food and fair prices for farmers.

Question: What sets KisaanSay- products apart from others in the market?

Answer: Our products stand out due to their uniqueness. We exclusively market products from Farmer Producer Organizations (FPOs) after thoroughly checking their quality. Manoj Karki, a co-founder, brings extensive experience in the food industry, which is invaluable. We personally inspect the entire production process of each FPO before including their products.

Question: How many FPOs are currently collaborating with you?

Answer: We are currently working with eighteen FPOs across seven states, with 70 ongoing projects.

Question: When did you start collaborating with farmers, and how has your experience been?

Answer: We began working with farmers in November 2023, and it’s been almost a year. Initially, there were some uncertainties, but we have since achieved significant scale. Overall, the experience has been very positive.

Question: Marketing and funding are crucial for any startup. How did you approach these?

Answer: Regarding funding, since Manoj and I had corporate experience, we started using our savings, which has yielded results. For marketing, we conducted surveys and researched how the government supports FPOs, organizing 70-80 events monthly to understand consumer needs, leading us to our tagline, “The Best of India.”

Question: Vaishali ji, as a co-founder, what role do you play in KisaanSay?

Answer: I’m a chartered accountant, responsible for managing the company’s finances and legal aspects, while also overseeing product quality.

Question: Vaishali ji, how do you feel about Nitin’s decision to leave a stable career for this venture?

Answer: I appreciate Nitin’s passion for unique food, which resonates with me. We were excited to pursue this together, and today, we are satisfied with our decision.

Question: Nitin, how does the branding work when an FPO joins you?

Answer: When entering the market, having a brand name is essential, and every brand has a story. We ensure that the FPOs we work with also get branded alongside KisaanSay, enhancing their visibility.

Question: What is your business model for co-branding?

Answer : We collaboratively assess the complete production costs for each brand. The expenses incurred by the FPO up until the product reaches our warehouse are shared with our co-partner monthly. After that, we deduct the costs for delivering the product from the warehouse to the customer. The remaining profit is then split equally between us. This creates a transparent system.

Question: Finally, what are your future plans?

Answer: Our goal is to establish KisaanSay “The Best of India” brand, connecting with as many farmers and consumers as possible nationwide.
